Here is a puzzle for you guys who like to figure stuff out.

For some reason, my PC started acting up. Meaning if I have a file, say on my desktop and I delete it, it does not go away. But if I try to open it, I get a message that it is no longer there.

If I insert a USB drive, it makes the "chime" noise that a disk has been inserted but unless I hit F5 to refresh it, it won't mount.

Also, after exiting all my running apps in my taskbar tray and then go to restart, the chasing dots will run forever. I have to press the on/off button to shut it down, then press it again to restart, then it will restart.

Any clues? Is there a utility that can scan for errors and possibly fix them?

    Thanks much..... Rich

I'll give it a try and see what happens.

No that did not work. I did not run Advanced System Care. I read that it is not a good program to use so I was a bit afraid of it.

    Thanks anyway for helping.

If you refresh the desktop then does the file disappear?

Yes, if I refresh the desktop the file goes into the trash. If I empty the trash, the trash icon still looks full until I refresh the screen, then it will look empty.

Also If I delete something, I have to refresh to get it off the desktop and into the trash. If I open the trash and rt-clk-restore nothing happens until I refresh the screen (F5), and then the files disappear from the trash and back to the desktop, after the refresh that is.

    Please try these cmds:
Right click on start & choose powershell/terminal with admin & type/copy & paste these cmds one at a time then click Enter:
    Code:
    SFC /SCANNOW
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
    SFC /SCANNOW

Yes the Sfc cmd is run twice.

Ok, I figured out what the problem was. When I restart my computer, the icons load up in the system tray. (The little box you see when you click the up arrow on the taskbar) all my files work fine. I can delete a file and it goes into the trash right away. I can go into the trash and restore the file and it goes back where it was. But when the iCloud App loads in the tray it all goes to hell. Everything above stops working. I delete a file and it stays there. I have to do a F-5 to refresh the screen, and it is gone.

So for me, that was the issue. The iCloud App was the culprit.

Thanks again to all who tried to help. Rich
