Another 9800 pro fan problem

My fan on my 3d card just died, and 3d card cant go for more than 2 mins before overheating and turning off. I read on some other forums that sometimes a 3d card power supply to the fan will die but the 3d card will still work(which mine still does). I was wondering if there was a way to plug the fan into some powerpoint and see if itll spin on its own? And I also read in this forum about another guy fan dieing, is it safe to rip the fan apart and try to clean it? Thanks.

 

If you don't want to buy a new fan, I would get a can of canned air and try and remove any dust or gunk that may be preventing the fan from running. You wouldn't have to take the fan off the video card to do this, although you may have to remove the card from the computer.

Thanks, I'll get a can of dust off and try it. But in case that doesnt work is there a way for me to plug in the fan somewhere else and see if maybe the 3d card isnt giving it power? Oh and did you ever try any of those coolers? Or buy anything from that site before?

 

You can plug your vidcard fan into a system fan socket they are both 12v,I have mine intalled into one at the moment as it runs slightly faster,I doubt yours will reach without an extension though

 

frozencpu is awesome, I ordered a new case the other week, ordered it sunday, got here tuesday, and that was with normal shipping course, I live in the same state as them.
