another "about:blank" victim...HELP!

My PC (HP Pavilion P4 with XP Pro, connected w/Linksys Wireless PCMCIA card, Linksys Wireless Router and cable modem) was has recently been infected with from what I have read a nearly impossible virus/spyware to remove. As soon as I launch IE6, my homepage switches to about:blank page. A few seconds later pop-ups with "Only the Best" start showing up. (some porn, but mostly spyware ads) I have aslo seen AVG Virus Warnings that read sspMyDoom.cih... when launching IE6 as well. I could go on about this issue, but probably better to here from some you first.
I finally had to download Fire Fox just to ease my frustration. Should have done this long ago. Nice product.

I have about 4 years of irreplaceable programs (ACAD...) and work files (backed up elsewhere) on this PC and it really makes me cringe to consider the thought of rebuilding this drive. I have the Hijack This log and ready to post if there is hero out there.
Please tell there is an easy way out of this!!

Ad Aware SE
AVG's latest
Microsofts Anti spyware
MS Maliciuos code repair (microsoft.com)
Hijack This ver. 1.99

Try those and stop back. IMHO, a pc with nothing of value is easier formatted, it can take hours to remove spyware and its faster to format. That said, a lot of people have important info on their machines and can not, but thought I would mention it as an option for those at their wits ends or simply those wondering about the advantages. I like to keep 2 hard drives, the second for important files myself.

A real/true about:blank infection cannot be cure with CWShredder. Not the old version and not the new version by Intermute.

If your problem is really gone after reboots and running some IE sessions, you did not have what is considered the true about:blank hijack. It just does not go away that easily.
