Don't bother seeing the Boogie Man. It sucks. I ought to just let my wife pick out the movies from now on. Seems like everything I pick lately sucks.

We really wanted to see a horror movie, and the only other one out was Hide and Seek, which looks more like "M.Knight Shyamawhatever suspense" than all out gore.

Boogieman just sucked badly. The previews were pretty good, however. The Ring 2 looks awesome, and the remake of The Amityville Horror looks good as well.

Just going to the movies at all anymore is such a waste. The theater is jam-packed, and nobody can shut up. I basically spent $25 including snacks, to watch a horrible movie with a bunch of obnoxious kids who can't shut up.

Gee, I guess this kinda turned into a rant about movie theaters, huh?

I saw Hide and Seek, which was...well, not very good. Disappointing. But I wasn't really expecting all that much anyways. In fact, I don't expect much from any Hollywood movie nowadays. I've been turning to independent films of late. I've been so spoiled by them, in fact, that the other day I saw Troy for the first time and was so bored and unimpressed that I stopped it before I finished the last half. I'm not even going to bother with Boogeyman. I am looking forward to The Ring 2 though. The first one scared me to death. I couldn't fall asleep comfortably for days :p

If you want to see a good movie, watch Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou; featuring Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Cate Blanchett, Wilem Dafoe, and many other splendid actors. It really took me by surprise. Such a brilliant and charming movie. It's my new obession :)

There are several other (mainly independent) movies that have recently grabbed my heart:
Maria Full of Grace (the main actress, Catalina Sandino Moreno got a Best Actress oscar nomination...she's glorious)
    Garden State
    Amélie
    Collateral
Ray (Jamie Foxx amazed me. I mean, really, really, amazed me. He shone in this film. But my favorite scene did not include him. Look for the scene when Ray is a little boy, and has already gone blind. He trips over a chair. I won't say any more, but I had tears rolling down my cheeks...)
    Lost In Translation
    Before Sunrise
    Before Sunset
    Napoleon Dynamite
(not for everyone...but I found it so funny:D it's original, and SO much better than the overdone, totally American humor found in movies like Not Another Teen Movie and Eurotrip. It doesn't have one curse word in it or a crude joke, and it still remains completely hilarious)
    Shaun of the Dead
and last but not least (and my favorite, by far): Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I could go on about this movie for forever, so I'll stop before I start :)

A few that I want to see, that I hear are great:
    A Very Long Engagement
    Dirty Pretty Things
    The Motorcycle Diaries
    City of God
    Sideways
    Hero
    House of Flying Daggers
    Bad Education
    In America

Ahh, they getcha everytime don't they? ;) I'll never trust previews ever again! :p

And I have to add this because I saw you mentioned M. Night Shyamalan, one of my favorite directors. I believe he is starting to become overrated, overexposed...The 6th Sense really elevated him to star director almost immediately, and since then, people have expected a "6th Sense" everytime he releases a new movie, and they're disappointed when they don't find one. One thing I disliked about the whole "The Village" sensation, was the way they advertised it. The Village is not a horror movie. I repeat, it is NOT a horror movie!! Yes, there are freaky parts in it, but it is a love story with suspenseful, horrorlike elements. I loved this film. Loved it. The story was beautiful and unique. It shows the power of love, how love overcomes fear. And this was why people hated it...the previews spurted out horror eye-candy, and the one thought running through everyone's mind was, "I wonder what the twist is?" I am guilty of thinking that same thing. I went into the theatre thinking it, and I thought of it throughout the movie. I was disappointed after watching it, because it was displayed as something it wasn't and because I expected something completely different; but after a while I learned to appreciate it.

So true:( It's hard to enjoy a movie in the theatre anymore. I've had many bad experiences, and it's a shame because it's so much fun seeing a movie on that huge screen. :)

Million Dollar Baby was a very good movie IMO, but the ending...damn...don't see it if you are already in a bad/sad mood.

If you like martials arts/action type movies and don't mind the story being as weak as French Politics then go see Ong-Bak.
Sideways was a good movie, I liked it.
Hero and Flying Daggers is similar to CTHD, if you like ballet like martial arts and dig Chinese story-telling, you will enjoy your time. Flying Daggers was more on the drama side but had killer action in it as well.
I still can't believe an ugly cartoon like Sponge Bob made over $30 milion the first week alone....that is amazing....

LLC: A very long engagement and the House of the Flying Daggers are both absolutely awesome :) two of the best movies i've seen this year, and the lead in a very long engagement is the same person as amelie

Tis a pity if the movie is spoiled by the audience, my local cinema is brilliant in that its not 'big' enough to attract people like that, lol.

That's great to hear. And yes, Audrey Tautou is the actress in Amelie and A Very Long Engagement. That's the main reason why I want to see it :) And actually, it's the same director as well.

    Sorry about this... ;)

LadyLaraCroft, may I presume you also raid tombs on your spare time? :)

I'll stay well away from the mentioned horror movies. I'm such a chicken, I can't watch horror movies, keeps me awake for weeks. Only thing worse than a horror movie, is a BAD horror movie... Lol.
