    Hey everyone.
Sorry for this "another" post about 7B, but i need to clarify to u guys my situation so maybe that way u guys can help me.
    Allright:
    I have a custom-made Laptop:
    -Intel COre 2 duo P9500
    -PC2-6400 DDR2 800Mhz
    -Seagate 200GB Momentus 7200.2
    ...
I think I caught a nice virus(or he caught me:( ), i suppose all this because all started with my windows going crazy, having big lag spikes...no antivirus signaled nothing.
    and suddenly BSOD.
all good till here, and I was repairing the easyest way, formatting C and reinstalling the windows.
After the crash I tryed the Win XP SP3 cd, and when gets to the part "Setup is starting Windows" I get the BSOD with stop 7b.It won't go further.
As normal I google-ed about it, I've been reading alot about it, tryed several tips but nothing.
I tryed Avira boot virus removal tool(nice thing), found nothing only my first partition said that unknown boot record
I got out my hdd and deleted all the partitons, made another ones,secure-erased them, formated..same thing BSOD with stop 7b.
So it isn't a virus, avira found nothing, the formating part surely erased it(right?)...
tryed CPM(cute partion manager, i got the tip from this forum somewhere),nice utility ,I repartitioned the hdd, set the boot flag on the first partition(it wasnt on the first, and the first partition was "extended" not NTFS)
defragmented, chkdsk, scan, fix errors, it found nothing,so it's all in order with my hdd.
I think I covered the part where it could be a virus or a corruption in the boot sector.
    what else could it be?
a conflict of some kind... here is where I lost it,reading about IRQ and SCSI controler conflicts...:confused

I had WIndows XP SP3 licensed.
    Tryed Win XP SP2..neah,same thing.
    Instaled Ubuntu - works nice.

I can't make it boot only until it says "Setup is starting Windows"(and BSOD).

I wold stay on Ubuntu if CS4 would work there..but it doesnt..so I am really addicted to WIndows because of this...
thanks and hopefully we can solve this.

    Hi

Some causes of Stop 7b are that you need to at the start of the XP install proceedure to hit F6 to install the SATA/RAID drivers off floppy for your motherboard version as once the setup gets to a specific point it doesnt recognise your hardware.

Will need to look on the Driver CD for you custom made laptop or goto makers site for this driver.

Dont have any other HDDs plugged in like external do you, if so unplug as many uneeded devices as possible.

    well,forgot to mention about that.
I allready tryed to that part, and it won't let me press F6, it does nothing when I press it, I though somehow I pressend some buttons on my keyboard and disabled the F functions, but the F2 function (for automatic recovery) works...so F6 doesnt work when it asks me ..:cry

oh wait, something happened...i'll be back in 5 minutes with updates:)

ok,so it seems like the F6 works somehow, I got into the a menu that tells me:
Setup could not determine the type of one or more mass storage devices installed in your system, or you have chosen to manually specify an adapter. Curently, Setup will load support for the following mass storage device(s):
    <none>
    NONE??
    +2 options:

    *to specify aditional SCSI adapters.....
*if you do not have any device support disks from a mass storage....

if I choose to specify... : Setup could not find a floppy drive on your machine to load OEM drivers from floppy disk.
    :confused

oh yeah, and I don't have a floppy on my laptop.
    :(
and nor the knowledge where to find those OEM drivers for the HDD if needed(i assume)
    hmmm
    what to do?

ok now my problem is how to get those drivers to load from any other source than floppy drive...
    hmm is it possible?
