    Hello again,
Either the computer was never completely clean, or we were reinfected when we opened an email from a cousin that had nothing in the subject line-- (probably the latter--it was a stupid thing to do). First we got stuck with Security Tool, but scans showed vundo.h and trogen.gen as the culprits. I followed the "Do these first" procedures which seemed to get everything. Could you take a look at my logs and tell me if they're clean or if I need to do more?
    Thanks!

This is a new infection and as such your post was moved to a new thread. Also since your previous thread is 6 weeks old, a new thread would be necessary anyway. Anything more than a week to 2 weeks, should be a new thread unless you had not completed the final instuctions due to being away for 2 weeks on vacation.

Please attach the log from SUPERAntiSpyware and make sure you install the new version of the program first and then also update it.

Also you did not update Malwarebytes before scanning and as such you are 6 weeks + out of date. Update it and then rescan just to be safe. Attach the new log. I then suggest that you empty your Malwarebytes Quarantine.

Why did you attach the RootRepeal program??????? You need to attach the log.

You also did not use the current version of MGtools!

Do you realize that Eset Smart Security has a firewall, antispam, antispyware, and antivirus? See the Features tab here: http://www.eset.com/smartsecurity/ It is probably not a good idea to be running SpySweeper since it may conflict with Eset and it will definitely slow your PC down.

Please delete the old MGtools.exe file from your Desktop. It does not belong there and you should not have this version anyway.

It looks like you did not run my final instructions last time. It still see old stuff laying around that should have been cleaned up. Examples: Old version MGtools.exe file, old info in C:\QooBox folder from ComboFix. All of which should have been deleted when I asked you to run final steps. Please make sure you complete all of the final instructions this time and make sure you keep programs properly updated.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    Java(TM) 6 Update 17

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Hello! My apologies for the length of time it just took me to reply - I was out of town as we have had a bit of a family emergency. To respond, I apologize for posting in the wrong spot. I have updated and rescanned with Malwarebytes and Anti-spyware. I am sorry I attached the wrong root repeal thing--I am a stoopit noob. I got rid of MGTools, got the new one and put it in the right place. The eset and spysweeper play nice together--you are right that they may go slower but spy sweeper is required by my job, and I did check with eset beforehand. (They have been running together for years without a problem, so they are probably ok.) I tried to run the combofix uninstall instructions but got the attached message. Then my son tried to run it and it sort of evaporated. I got it again and ran it and tried to uninstall it but got the same message, so it is still sitting there. I don't know what to do with it. I was waiting on the other stuff until the combofix thing was resolved, but then this family problem came up and it all took a backseat. I'm really sorry, I know your time is valuable (priceless to idiots like me)and I will follow all future instructions to the letter. On the bright side, the computer seems fine. I attached the logs requested.

These are the other two attachments that you wanted that wouldn't fit. Thank you so much for your help. When I say I am a stoopit noob, I am not being facetious--I really don't know what I'm doing with this stuff and it is a real blessing to have Majorgeeks available.

Chaslang has been without power for a few days now, so please use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\PKoEh5G
    C:\WINDOWS\Qtulexinodu.dat

Now tell me what malware issues you may still have.

I will delete those two files. There are no other malware issues that I am aware of -thanks to Major Geeks. Thank you all so much for your help!

    Good to know.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
