As some of you regulars may know, I occasionally like to post a list of virus files that I recently removed from a PC. Today, I have attached a screenshot of a list containing 80 malicious files, and some of 'em are just BLATANT infections! You'll see the words "worm" and "a-virus" and "spam" and "thief" and "threat" right in the freakin' file names!!!!
LOL LOL LOL roflmao roflmao roflmao

Anyway, here it is for your enjoyment.....

(BTW- there are 9 more lists just like this one that I also removed from this same PC!!!! LOL LOL That's over 720 malicious files!!!!)

NO! The system loaded to the login screen, you could login and the wallpaper loaded up, but that was it. I had to boot into PE (via the UBCD4Win) and manually delete 100s of files just like those above..... that's why I get the big bucks!! LOL LOL (yeah, right)

Geeezzz!:eek Is this person trying to see how many virus/bugs they can download before they loose the pc?:confused I'm no expert but I think they just figure, "Why bother with security when I have someone to clean it for me"?!!

Sorry to get on-topic here, but wouldn't a reformat and reinstall be a better option under the circumstances?

Well, after deleting well over 1000 malicious files, and making VERY little progress, it was decided that the PC will be wiped and reloaded: I'll delete the boot sector first just to be sure that nothing from this virtual bacterial petri dish survives and re-infects the clean install....

Just run DBAN on it on the longest cycle, that way the compy can be sitting in your workshop racking up lots of nice $$$ due to you having to sit in front of it to "monitor" it's progress;):-D

Whoa, dlb, that is something! I wondered how long it took them to bring it in.. LOL! manually deleting! OUCH! But, on the other hand, nice :highfive $$$

It does make you wonder, tho, what people are doing, doesn't it??? :-D

Nature of the internet beast these days I'm afraid, many think they know about PCs from what they read or search but the crux is, its not as straight forward as you think and security is one area thats not..... mainly as many what something for nothing and see the internet as a warez Smörgåsbord! and fall foul of malware due to thinkingthe likes of an Antivirus, or Firefox will keep them safe.

Sounds about right, Halo. I have read some horror stories in malware, and it is quite scary... I guess some just have to know what is beyond that next page, eh? I guess they will find out what curiosity will do to them, as it did the cat ;)

    I agree TeeCee,

    With your
as its not as easy as you think keeping safe on the net, its not the software thats the main issue but the user sadly, many think its not their fault in in some respects some do get infected innocently, but the majority is due to downloading from unsafe sites.... hard truth but the truth I'm afraid.

If you warez Windows and think its fine then good but you have no idea what components are missing as the hackers will try to slim the app or any app down to say download size, this leads to you maybe, missing crucial updates or components, then the unsafe sites that offer retail softwarefor free.. have to LMAO at the amount of users, using Photoshopo a $600 program, yeah right everyon whos using it has bought it retail! I know I didnt.. but my route was a reletive who has a company who licences it so thats why I have it. could get it though work also as we are a gov dept and get MSFT apps for example MS Office 2007 for $16

But the lure of free of cheap expensive software like Windows, Office, Photoshop, 3DMax as well as Films and Music is hard to resist.

Oh, Halo, I agree, yes, the user for sure. I, on the other hand, don't download music, or videos, or even photoshop....(boring, eh?)

I have a Kodak digital camera, and software that came with it, but I don't allow it to connect to the Internet either.. Just use it to upload my pix from my camera.. for my own personal use..... It is all done offline. Also, it is blocked from connecting while I am online... ;)

Yes, I do believe you on the
I know of one now, who is having all sorts of problems, and just can't figure out why... Of course, this person doesn't listen to anything I say, as "Security?? Don't have enough RAM for that, BUT, look at my new music file!" Yeah, and what they downloaded with it, is also scary... :eek

I used to think it was only kids, but am finding out adults are just as bad, as this person is not a kid, but sadly, an adult... And, as for FW, non-existent... So very sad... I guess some are just more hard-headed than others rolleyes

Geez that guy really likes his porn.:-D If you think about it porn is great for us it keeps us in business, ever noticed that womens computers have markedly less malware on?

If someone has been running without a firewall for any length of time I treat the computer as compromised and recommend a reinstall even if nothing shows up on the scans.

I did a test about a year ago. I formated and installed XP SP1 on a old box, didn't update nothing, no patches, no updates, NOTHING. I went out with IE, I tried to pick up as much as I could. I downloaded all the cracks, keygens and went to all the places you shouldn't. In just a few days It had so much it could barely boot and all the fake alerts were actually fighting for control. It was completely unusable. I then tried to install all the normal tools. Most wouldn't install and it started B.S.O.D. at every boot.

So I learned a very uninformed person could destroy a computer in a few days if they were doing the wrong things. (not a surprise)

Wow that is a lot, I pulled almost 300 nasties of a neighbours a few weeks ago and he was dumbfounded at the sheer number after he had a visit from "Antivirus Pro 2009". He was lulled into that false sense of security because he had a paid version of PC-Cillin Internet Security installed but I was very disappointed with the product letting so much crap in.

Sadly I don't think he goes to the "shadier" parts of the web (married with 3 kids) and he certainly had no "pirated" software on there. Just a regular Joe surfing.

Interested to know your current tools dbl.

As Halo indicates we can all become complacent and think we are resilient but "Internet Security" is a very intangible and ambiguous state imho, sorry for the big words.
