Another Monday...

High-lights from the day:

Customer: I plugged in my USB drive and it's not showing up on my desktop!
Mimsy: Does it show up in your Disk Utility?
Customer, very pointedly and condescendingly: This is a Mac. Are you familiar with the Mac at all?

Customer: The notch in the memory you sent me is on the left. The notch on the slot is on the right .You sent me the wrong part!

Customer: I've worked in IT for 30 years. I used to work for Microsoft. What's your background?

And people wonder why I despise humanity.

 

I have a cousin who works for the Inland Revenue. He's not the brightest star in the galaxy. This customer could have been a toilet cleaner for Microsoft. Or the tea maker.
Mimsy, I sympathise, some people just think they are better than everyone else. But they ain't bright enough to realise they are pi$$ing on their own chips by being rude to other folk. Pond life.

Yep, the truth is out there - trust no one.

Strangely enough, I had a fun day of abuse and "I know everything", too. One of the local tel-Co's had their server down and all the customers couldn't get on the 'net for about four hours, (including me, bah!). So my so-called 'friends' decide to refer every whiner on to me. It's not like I even deal with customer support, or anything to do with the Internet, anyway. - And do they listen and accept that they have to refer any probs to the tel-Co?- ...Noo!.rolleyes Being the public's whipping boy when it doesn't even remotely have anything to do with me aint my idea of a fun day. {/end rant} rolleyes

Hehehe, I did a similar thing when Stubby sent me some memory. I couldn't figure out why the darned things wouldn't fit! I even pulled out my video card to get better access to the slots. After a half hour of sweat and cursing I compared one of my sticks with the new ones and they were exactly the same except that the label was on the opposite side!:-o:-D Glad I didn't break anything.

 

Mimsy, all I can say is you must really love your job to put up with all those 'know-it-all's!' The 'abuse' you take is a LOT more than I could handle. Remember 'P?' Well, it looks like you just had a session with 'P's' brother:-D You now, you could always change professions.....I heard you're pretty good at installing water filters on 'fridges,' or maybe you could become a professional wasp killerroflmaoroflmao

Now, as for you Augie...switching those labels was NOT my idea, honest it wasn't:-o I told Hrlow2 that I was sending you some RAM and HE suggested that I switch the labels to the opposite side just to see how long it would take you to figure it outroflmaoroflmao Sorry Augie, that was a mean trick and I promise I will NEVER listen to Hrlow2 again:-D

 

LOL, I didn't know that there was a spec issued to always label the same side. My thumb and forefinger had an impression in them for a day and hurt!:-D However, I did break my own cardinal rule ATT as I had had a few brews when I went to install them.:-o Never again!!!

 

Droping in on Mimsy and Co is almost at good as people watching :wave

Well that's it MImsy I've finally decided to do it. I'll give you a percentage when the first one sells. I'm going to write a book and it will be called "Tech communication for Dummies" "How to communicate with Techs before wearing their foot" I know there is at least a page full just here alone at MG's to get me started on it.:-D Who knows maybe one of those "Dummies" will read it before they call. Ya Think? NAH! Then they wouldn't have anything to bit** about. AND GOD FORBID they should give you a few days of being listeners instead of "I know it all'. Sounds like my children when they were teenagers "They Knew it All"
What I don't understand is why did they call you in the first place?? I keep waiting for someone here on MGs who uses a Mac to comment on how horribly stupid that question was. LOL I'm guessing you know?

And I love my paycheck (very decent), my co-workers, and I enjoy talking to the 95% of customers who are not tool-idiot dumbsticks. I get to solve problems all day long, which I love, and when I am able to help people they are really happy and appreciative.

For a part of the profits I'll be happy to serve as expert advisor on the subject! :-D
