Fact of fiction? This link takes you to a news article, and halfway through the article there's a link that will take you to the 'monsters' website with, supposedly, actual footage of this 400 year old beast. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/swedenanimallegendoffbeat

Nothing to gain proportion from. That could be a worm.

Agreed with Lev, no proportion but in the video shown you can estimate size to a degree and that thing had no bulk to it, more looked like as Lev said a worm, or could even from the guage and size be a peice of string!

Well, in all honesty, I've never been a big believer in these so-called 'monsters.' So, who wants be the first one to tell the Swedes that their 400 year old 'legend' could possibly be a worm, or even a peice of string??:-D You both made very good points in the fact that there is nothing in which to gauge 'it's' size by. Something I didn't think of. What I find interesting about all these 'monsters,' including Nessie, Bigfoot and the Yeti is the fact that for as long as they have exisited, there has been no, to my knowledge, physical contact with humans. Well, I guess I couldn't blame them for that with the shape the human race is in, but you'd think that maybe Nessie could have, at least, gulped down a swimmer, or sunk a boat, or something!! I can't totally rule out their existence, but until there is concrete evidence they will remain what they are....legends.

I agree Stubby, its very weird that with the population we now have and over X amount of years we have not catagorically seen these so called monsters, so they either do not exist or are very shy!

I dont doubt that their are creatures we have not come across yet, mainly in some deep jungle forest in South America, North or South poles or mainly in the deep oceans... kinda like believing their are aliens out there in deep space, but its good to as you say not rule these things out.

As a Swede, I feel obligated to speak up here.

And though I hate to burst anyone's bubble, this isn't exactly news.

We've known about this lake and the creature in it for centuries, and that video is honestly one of the worst ones I have seen on the subject. There are photos and reports with far more detail than that one, but they never reached the internet, mainly because the photos were lost before the internet was invented. I'm not saying these lost photos would have proven anything at all, I'm only trying to point out that, once again, this is not exactly news. It's a very old story.

Mimsy, trust me, I meant NO disrespect to the Swedish people and I do apologize if I have offended anyone. However, this is honestly the first time I have even heard of a Nessie type creature in Swedish waters. It may be old news to you, but it IS new to me, so I guess my 'bubble' can remain intact;) Still, I am curious Mimsy, do you believe in this creature?

Ahem. We Swedes try not to spread crazy legends too far outside of our country. We have this strange dislike of being made fun of. ;)

I do believe that about 50 years ago, someone saw a huge creature in the lake. I doubt that same creature is still alive, and I doubt the person that saw it at that time was sober.

Make of that what you will. :)
