Another Printer Not Detected

The USB Brother printer is no longer detectable. I cannot even update the drivers on the computer to see if that would fix the problem because the device cannot be detected. It is a new netbook Acer Aspire one running a Windows 7. Please and thank you for any and all help...

 

Do you have another computer you can test it on? This would be my first step.

Double check the power connection ,are the lights on on the printer?It won't be detected if it isn't powered up.

Can you use other USB devices in the computer,you say 'another printer not detected' are other printers not detected by this computer? Have you recently installed windows? Go to control panel,system,device manager and look for any yellow exclamation marks or red crosses,post result.

If you know the model number of the netbook post for reference.

That is odd to me. Typically, you can install the drivers without having the printer attached. In fact, many printer installation procedures instruct, "DON'T attach printer until after drivers are installed". For example, the instructions for my HP 6500 All-in-One makes it clear in multiple places, including the first line under step 1 where it says (their BOLD HIGHLIGHT):

IMPORTANT: Do not connect the USB cable until prompted by the software.​

What is the Brother model number?
