Another SWG complaint... Virtumundo?

I hate to be another one of the people complainging about problems with SWG, but unfortunately I can't seem to find the specific issue wrong with mine. I've read the Sticky regarding the correct way to delete all files in association with Virtumundo/Spyguard and, honestly, I'm not so positive it's related to that? I did everything described however. I'm not exactly the most intelligent individual when it comes to these types of problems though. ^^; I have also read the threads in the sticky in regards Virtumundo and nothing seemed to quite fit me - as far as I could tell.

I've included the HJT - which I hope isn't a problem. I ran it with all browsers closed and such as was described. There's probably a few things that need to be removed (not the only one that uses this computer unfortunately), but any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

If it's merely something I personally have overlooked, then a link to the appropriate thread will do just fine. =] I sincerely apologize if I've wasted anyone's time if that's the case.

I appreciate the time, consideration, and help offered.

In the future, please do not post HJT logs unless they are requested.

You do not have a Virtumundo problem. You have an about:blank hijacker noted by the se.dll lines.

Please run ALL steps in the Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

You did not complete all those steps.

Also, do you have Outpost for a firewall?

Your OS is way out of date and represents a major security risk. After we fix your current problems, you must get updated.

    Also download this file: SpSeHjfix109

Unzip it to your desktop or to a folder.

    Boot into Safe Mode

Start SpSeHjfix, click on " Desinfecton starten" (the other button means close) then it will reboot and finish the cleaning.

    Run SpSeHjfix one more time.

    Reboot in Normal mode.

Run HijackThis again and post a new log. Also post the log from SpSeHjfix, the log should be on your desktop or the same folder as SpSeHjfix.

Sorry about the HJT file - I'll be sure to not post unless requested.

I ran through the steps again in Safe mode and used the SpSeHjfix program as well. And to answer your question, Outpost isn't used (and never has been) on this computer as far as I know.

I've attached the new HJT and SpSeHjfix files.

    Thanks for the help.

Please first disable Spybot's Teatimer because it may get in our way of fixing problems.

To disable TeaTimer, run Spybot and click Mode and select Advanced Mode. Then click Tools and select Resident. Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    Now quit Spybot!

    Download: "StartDreck", from here:
    http://www.niksoft.at/_data/startdreck.zip

Unzip to its own folder and start the program,
    Press 'Config'
    Press 'Unmark All'
    Check the following boxes only:
    Registry -> Run Keys
    System/drivers> Running processes
    Press 'Ok'
Press 'Save' and select the location to save the log file
(default is the same folder as the application)

Please attach the log in this thread.

After doing what is in my previous message continue with the below (we are not done yet).

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Please run HijackThis and click on the "Open the Misc Tools Section" button on the open page. Then select "Open process manager" on the left-hand side. Look for the following process (or processes) and one at a time kill them by selecting it and then click "Kill process". Then click yes.
    C:\WINDOWS2\System32\outpostupdate.exe

After killing all the above processes, click "Back".
Then please click "Scan" and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [outpostupdate] C:\WINDOWS2\System32\outpostupdate.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [outpostupdate] C:\WINDOWS2\System32\outpostupdate.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [outpostupdate] C:\WINDOWS2\System32\outpostupdate.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS2\System32\outpostupdate.exe

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST). Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

I did all you asked in HJT - wrote it all down to make sure I had nothing open when fixing the issues - and deleted the file in Windows Explorer with no issues.

I've added the Startdrek and HJT logs as requested.

I haven't tried running the game again just yet - wanted to see if there was anything else you saw that looked suspicious or needed work done. =] Otherwise I have no issues or problems.

Many thanks again for the patience and help.

I decided to try the game this morning, but no luck; it still crashed. I figure it needs a full uninstall/reinstall in order to be fully functional again.

Aside from that everything is still running great. =]

You appear to be running multiple antivirus applications (F-Protect and Symantec). You should use only one. Uninstall one.

If you are using WinXP or WinMe, make sure you have system restore disabled (per the tutorial).
For all OS types, make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\CJTRUM~1.003\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll/space.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = about:blank
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\CJTRUM~1.003\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll/space.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\DOCUME~1\CJTRUM~1.003\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.
Tell me if you have problems finding or deleting the above file.

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST). Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

Ran HJT and fixed the slected problems.

Booted into Safe Mode and tried to trake that se.dll file, but couldn't find it. I ran a search, but came up empty. No idea why.

    Ran CCleaner.

Reset the Web Settings, including the homepage.

Rebooted and ran HJT; and here's the log.

Thanks again for all the help.

Oh, sidenote: I uninstalled/installed the game and everything seems to be running great. On top of that, IE seems to be quicker.

Oh, forgot to mention that I also deleted F-Prot AntiVirus. I have Norton AV installed as well - should I use this or no?

If you like Norton and keep it updated and it does not slow your system down too much then keep it.

You forgot to post the follow up HJT log.

You still have an item from F-Prot

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [FRISK FP-Scheduler] C:\Program Files\FSI\F-Prot\F-Sched.exe STARTUP

You should have HJT fix this line and delete the F-Prot folder if still present.

Ran HJT and fixed it, so no further signs of F-Prot.

Everything seems to be running quite well - computer even seems to boot faster to me.

Many thanks for all the help; it's very much appreciated. =]
