    Hi Guys,

Looks like I'm in need of your help again, I'm afraid.

I've managed to get infected with Zlob... again. I'm working through the Special Removal Instruction and have attached the first 'rapport.txt' files, as directed. Second to follow...

    Thanks,
    Lee

Next 'rapport.txt' log after deleting infected files.

When SmitfraudFix got to the 'Deleting Temp Files' stage it kicked off Windows Disk Cleanup - is that normal?

I let Disk Cleanup finish before rebooting to normal mode and posting this second log.

Now to carry on with the rest of the Special Removal Instructions.

    Cheers,
    Lee

    Hi chaslang,

Yes I've been working through that Malware Removal Guide. That's what the first two 'rapport.txt' logs were from - one of the steps in the Special Removal Instructions.

I'm down to step 3 now and have just run SUPERAntiSpyware. Log attached below.

Just going to follow the remaining parts of step 3 next.

    Cheers,
    Lee

    Just run Spybot S&D.

It found Zlob DNS changer amongst a few other things that it always finds - mainly usage tracks etc.

    S&D report attached.

Please only attach the logs requested in the READ & RUN ME. You still need to attach the below logs:
    • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    • ComboFix
    • MGlogs.zip from running MGtools

Is there a reason that you are loading Windows Explorer at starup? See the below:
    O4 - Startup: Explorer.lnk = C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe

First please disable Spybot's Teatimer as was requested in the READ & RUN ME. See this link: How to disable Spybot's TeaTimer

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_06\bin\jusched.exe"
    O6 - HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0001-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_01) -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0002-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_02) -
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0003-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java Plug-in 1.6.0_03) -

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix again.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Hi Chaslang,

    Thanks for the detailed instructions.

The only reason I have Explorer loading at startup is that I use it to access all my files to work from rather than having shortcuts plastered all over the desktop. It opens with a command line that opens in a particular folder every time.

I did disable Teatimer as per the instructions, but enabled it again after running the scan. Is it best left disabled?

I've followed your instructions and the requested logs are attached.

Yes I did get a success message after running fixme.reg

The PC now appears to run a bit faster and does always go to the web page I want - so far.

I've run S&D again and it has not found Zlob this time. So it looks like you've got rid of it for me with your expert advice, unless you tell me there is anything sinister still hiding in the logs.

    Many thanks once again.

    Lee

    You're welcome.

While working o a forum like this, it is best to keep it disabled until you are totally finished. If you plan on using it for your active realtime protection, you can leave it enabled now since your logs are clean.
If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\cf" /u
        • Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.
    2. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    3. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    4. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    5. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    8. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    9. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
