Unfortunately, most "help" desks are useless.

What they are good at is telling you it's another programs fault and to contact them, or clear your temp files and reboot or reinstall.

Actually, that's not entirely true... I'm currently in the process of RMA'ing a Hitachi drive and skimmed their RMA policy to make sure nothing jumped out at me, but something did:

(And actually I'm not very happy with their RMA process this far, they're having me specially pack and send in a drive that their software claimed to be dead.)

most help from anywhere on the internet is not worth much that is why I am here thank goodness I was looking for help and no body would help and I stumbled on this web site , this wonderful place and I have been coming here ever since . I have a dell and have never had problems except the virus thing my son picked up but if you need help, support ain't worth a toot.

So where exactly did I say that? I was comparing the amount of data (or answers of 35,000 people), which you were discounting - yet presumably want us to pay credibility to one person's opinion. Not saying your right or wrong, but the difference in opinion sample size is obvious.

I deal with computers for a living nowadays. I couldn't care less wether someone thinks Dells, Compaqs or E-Machines are the cat's whiskers, or they swear by home made P.C., or Macs. That's their choice, and everyone's needs and wants will differ, obviously.

Now, if they want specific advice, for their specific situation, that I don't mind giving. If they want to listen - fine, if they choose not to, then that's equally fine, as long as they realise they're accountable for their own decisions.

As for the arguments pro/con on different makes. I've heard them all before over years, along with most of the other debates and arguments about different hardware and software.

Re: Parts:- I always purchase parts for the units we make from proven, reliable distributors, wherever possible. The hardware parts I obtain all have a 12 month Warranty, and the supplier has always come to the party and replaced the old parts with new. Actually, I've come out in front a few times, especially with videocards, as the supplier always replaces them with later models, if the returned models are no longer made. I don't often have to R.M.A. bits, but it's good to know that I won't have to shell out for parts, in the unlikely event they develop a fault.

I personally don't recommend most proprietary P.C.'s to friends, for reasons already stated in this thread. But some people couldn't care less about upgrading, or mod'ing their boxes, and are wrapped just to have something that looks neat and does their email, typing and Solitare games - fair enough.

If you really want to know, here is where you said it, and I took exception to the disparaging remark and sarcastic icon,

.....On the other hand - we have Insomniac's opinion.

Which is likely to be more accurate, I wonder??

You cannot force your opinion, which is what a flawed survey is, onto others.

I'm expressing what I have experienced in years of using and fixing PC's.

Whether Dell support here is better or not, I don't care.

I'm stating things as how I experienced them, and not some survey that might not even be relevant.

Anyway, you're entitled to think what you want, and so am I and everyone else also. If the survey is so accurate, how come it doesn't apply to a lot of the posters here?

No use getting into a slinging match or putting others experiences down because it doesn't correlate with a survey, so as far as I'm concerned, end of story.

Let's just say if you knew me for years, like some of the posters in this thread, you would know I don't knock people for having an opinion.

The 'rolleyes' was at the difference in sample size - that's where the Smilie was positioned. Since you stated they were opinions, and not fact, which is true. They are, but there were an awful lot of them. There was no 'disparaging' remark made.

Not withstanding the rather assine comments like :-

"He will tell us what to think and post, and mercy to anyone who dares to do otherwise."

I actually agree with some of your comments, as I'm not really a Dell fan, either, by any stretch of the imagination. I respect opinions, I don't respect emotive attacks. I don't want this thread to get away from the topic, so I'm done here.

In my posts I was just giving my opinion and experience. Anyone can read it or not ,agree or not, disagree or not. To each his own. Kinda like politics. ;)
