My NEC MultiSync FE771 sb monitor has hundreds of tiny annoying cracks in the anti-glare. Looks like the lines on your hand.

My daughter did some of them with a screwdriver, but I wonder if ammonia (from Windex) did most of it?

Help me get ALL of the antiglare off please!

Screwdriver? Is it scratched? Windex probably would not cause it. I dont know about anyone else, but not sure what antiglare is....

antiglare = the film the manufacturer puts on the monitor to reduce glare, especially in day-time hours. Every monitor has it.

The glass is NOT scratched, but the antiglare film is.

It is not recommended that any ammonia products touch it.

I have googled this and the problem is not uncommon, but a real solution for removing what is left of film is not apparent.

Unless I remove film, the monitor is annoying to look at, to say the least

From what I have read either rubbing alcohol or that ceramic stove/oven top cleaner can do the job of removing the AntiGlare coating.... BUT [disclamer] I have never used either on a crt monitor so wouldnt know the after affects.

but here is a search on topics of the like, you may find an answer http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=remove+antiglare+coating+off+crt&meta= as this is what I was reading through top link at suggestion 5 seems to point to the same.

If your resigned to removing the coating completely there are two chemicals that I use for everything, one is BUTANONE known as Domino wash a very strong solvent that will dissolve any adhesive and DICHLOROMETHANE known as nitromorse or paint stripper which will should rot away the coating in seconds similar to ammonia

If you decide to use something like this check they work on a flake of the coating if some has fallen off and do a test on the plastic of your monitor on the base for example to make sure you dont spread a fresh coat of plastic on your screen
