Hello Major Geeks, I'm a first time poster so please excuse any mistakes

I had the following problems with my pc:

After signing into Windows live messenger I would get an error relating to the "Windows Live Communications Platform".

Spybot Search and Destroy would close for no reason mid-scan.

SUPERanti-spyware would crash mid-scan and the pc would need to be restarted. Before the scan crashes it would detect the following malware - "disabled.securitycenteroption."

Malwarebytes' anti-malware would give me an error message when I tried to download updates. The error message is the following: "An error has occured. Please report this error code to our support team. MBAM_ERROR_UPDATING(12150, 0, WinHttpQueryHeaders)"

I've followed the instructions in the READ & RUN ME FIRST post.

I cannot post the log from SUPERanti-spyware because as previously stated it crashed mid-scan.
I tried to download the updates for Malwarebytes' anti-malware by manually downloading it from their database. This seemed to go fine but I'm not sure if it worked or not.
When running MGTools I recieved an error relating to processdll.exe, following the instructions of the post I downloaded the Microsoft. NET Framework software and installed it, but I recieved the same error message when I ran MGTools a second time.

After following the instructions of the post, the Windows Live Messenger error has dissapeared but the other problems remain.

I've attached the logs for Malwarebytes', Combo Fix, Root Repeal and MGTools in that order.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I forgot to mention that while trying to enable viewing of hidden files, system files and file extensions, after pressing apply and closing the window, the settings would automatically return to keeping them hidden.

What problems? You mean about Search and Destroy? You may need to reinstall it if issues persist with it.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\n0qls.exe
    C:\awb3ryk.exe
    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB}]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    How are things running now?

Hey again, thanks for the instructions for combofix.

After doing what you said Spybot S&D went through the full scan without shutting down, however SUPERAnti-spyware still crashes during a scan and I still cant download updates for Malwarebytes' A-M, so I suspect there is still malware on the pc. This isn't too big an issue right now but I'm worried it might cause problems in the future.
I've attached the new logs, if you could look them over that'd be great. Thanks.

Hmm.. I am certainly not seeing any malware now, let's try a couple things:

    Try SUPERantispyware Portable

    SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner

Please download This Renamed Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware File and save to your desktop.

    • Right click on the renamed Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware File on your Desktop and chose Copy.
    • Next go to Start > Computer > C > Program Files.
    • Right click on the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Folder and click Paste.
    • Next Double click on the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Folder and launch the renamed file, malwarebytes should run now and update.
    • Please follow my previous instructions for running it, and post the log in your next reply.

Hey again, unfortunatly the portable version of SUPERanti-spyware isn't completing a full scan either, it just dissapears mid-scan. Two pieces of malware were appearing before the scan would close, so I stopped the scan just after these two pieces of malware appeared and deleted them, but I couldn't get a log of this.

It turned out I could get the malwarebytes' updates to work by disabling my Norton anti virus. I never considered this before because when asked if it was okay to allow the connection by Norton I always chose yes. At least that problems gone. I did a complete scan with malwarebytes' but no malicious programs/files were found. Ive got the log attatched anyway.

If we've hit a brickwall so to speak with finding out whats causing SUPERanti-spyware to not function thats alright, whatever it is its not giving me any problems with anything else.
I just wanna say this free support your offering is brilliant, if there were more people like you guys and less like those godamned virus programmers itd be a better world for sure! and I hope you guys are getting paid for this stuff lol.

I wonder if it would run in safe mode? Give it a go if you'd like. Let me know? But more than likely, yes, it will be time for final steps soon. :)

Hey again, putting the computer in safe mode didn't help. I guess it's just gonna have to remain a mystery.

I've currently also got some issues with start-up programs and not knowing whether some can be deleted or not. I know this isn't the section of the forum to discuss that but I was wondering if you could direct me to where I could get some answers about it.

    Thanks for all the help,
    - Damres.

You can visit the software forum :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
