I use a program called spyshelter. It is an anti spyware, malware, keylogger etc. It seems to do OK but the question is, can I or need I run another similar program such as say Advanced Spyware Remover or would they fight each other and be overkill? Any recommendations for a better anti spy, mal, keylogger would also be appreciated.

    Hi

Just as you should only use one real time antivirus, you should also only use one realtime Antispyware program. You can have as many scanning programs as you like, as long as they aren't running realtime protection.

This is a good thread to read: How to Protect yourself from malware!

I've never heard of Spyshelter. If you like it though, I'd stick with it.

Most people around here recommend Superantispyware or Malwarebytes.

Hi LauraR, thanks for your response. I had used Superantispyware before but it seemed to slow down my boot up quite a bit. Maybe using a browser besides IE would change that. I'm in the process of selecting a new browser anyway, I'll give it another try and see if things change. If my boot up isn't quicker, maybe being more patient might help? I do use the freeware version of Malwarebytes and like it.

    Hello.

I use malwarebytes myself and it's really good for free. Here is a list of programs which are good to use.

MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) - Runs in real time and pops up as soon you download a dangerous file.

Advanced Systemcare 4 - Keeps your computer running in tip top shape with junk files deletion and defrag of hard drive. also comes with turbo mode to speed up windows.

AVG anti virus - very good anti virus program but seems to be problems with the latest free version.

Avast Anti Virus - Another good anti virus program which most people recommend in using than AVG.

Also this is depending on your service provider they sometimes have a agreements with a security company to provide you with a free program to download in my case I have got Virgin Media Security which has anti virus and spyware removal and a built in firewall all in one package.

When it comes to choosing browsers. It really goes down on to personal preference. Here is a list of browsers I have tried.

Firefox 5 and Aurora - Good browsers just got to becareful with addon's as some of these slow down startup times.

Opera 11.50 - Good browser, only problem is that opera turbo is only good for when you are on a slow network.

Google Chrome - Good browser, neat looking most people are recommending using this one. there is addon's too for this browser

Comodo Dragon - Built same as google chrome but it has bumped up security like you get 2 warnings when you log in to facebook.

Slimbrowser - Good Browser, loads of features there is no addon's for this browser but you can change your skins to suit your liking.

    Hope this Helps you.

    Hi

If you like what you're using, and it's working for you, I'd stick with that.:) Maybe just supplement it with Superantispyware and Malwarebytes scanning.

I scanned your Browser thread. While probably all of the browsers are going to move quicker than IE, it really shouldn't have any impact on your boot time, unfortunately.

Have you taken a look at what programs you have starting when you start up your computer? That can have a huge impact on the time it takes your machine to boot up.
