Anti Trojan Shield Trouble

I downloaded Anti-Trojan Shield from here, and scanned with it. It scanned only 35 files, and told me I had no troubles, which was utterly ridiculous.
When I uninstalled it, it took my Norton Firewall, and my "Clean My PC" pop-up blocker with it.
Now Norton tech service tells me I have to restart in clean mode to get it back, and Clean My PC (the best free popup blocker I've ever used) is just gone from the net.

Anti Trojan Shield truly sucks. It has caused me more trouble than any trojan I've ever had. You really should remove it from your downloads.

I have not heard of any other problems with this program. It would not think that this program would remove anything related to your other applications when you uninstall it.

Do you have WinXP or WinMe? If so, you could just use a System Restore back to a point before you installed Anti-Trojan Shield. But why wouldn't your Norton Tech Support have suggested that?????

Ditto, but heard of plenty of problems with compatibility with all sorts of products mixed with Nortons products. As for popup blocking, its included with IE7.

We will not be removing it, the program works fine. I hope you understand one person having a problem does not make it a bad program.

You probably did not select a drive to scan -- if not it will only scan what is in memory.

It’s a pretty self contained program – So I would have no idea how it could affect any other program on uninstall --- As a matter of fact. I’d have to say it couldn’t.

To be safe I tested and install/Clean/Remove/Uninstall from a machine with Norton’s firewall on it and there were no problems.

I understand that one problem does not make it bad, except that that "one problem" has affected nearly everything on my PC. As I said originally, it has caused me more trouble than any trojan I ever had. I stand by my statement that it sucks. Whether you remove it or not, hopefully a bunch of folks will read this and not download it.

My norton will not reload, now, because ATS took out a bunch of shared files when it left.

I tried reloading my old Systemworks from disc, and it cannot load due to shared memory files being deleted.

I still run '98. So the restore function is not here. That's the reason that Norton tech Support has not suggested it, probably.

As to how it could remove a BUNCH of shared memory files, I don't know either, but it did.

It would be interesting to see a HijackThis log for your PC. I'm going to break protocol and request one without the normal cleanup steps being followed.

Please follow the steps below from normal boot mode:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

You totally ignored Corporal Punishments thread where he went to all the trouble to install this program on a machine with Nortons with no troubles. I suspect this thread is not going any further, with this person picking and choosing what he wishes to respond to, so he can stay assured ATS was the cause is the end of this thread. If you would like to post a Hijack This logfile, Chaslang will take a look for possible problems. Otherwise, I am not sure how we can be of further assistance.

I didn't ignore Corp Punishments comment, but there is little I can do with it, as Anti-Trojan Shield is already uninstalled. I probably did not use it right, as he said, but the use was not the problem, it was the uninstall.

I appreciate everyone's attempts to help, but am just very frustrated at all the things that have disappeared from my PC. I have had trojans/hijackers before, and was able to remove them, mainly through downloads from here. This is the first time a download from here ever seemed to cause, rather than alleviate a problem.

I have run an older version of Hijack This, and have the log, but it was not done in the way Chaslang suggested, so I will download and run it as he said.

When I try to download HJT into a file as listed by ChasLang, all I get is "path does not exist, please be sure specified path is correct."

I'm just going to take it to a shop, I guess.

Thanks to those who tried to help.

You do not download into a file. You just download from the link I gave you to any folder where you can find it. Then you extract the hijackthis.exe file from the HijackThis.zip that you downloaded. The hijackthis.exe file is what we want put into the C:\Program Files\HJT folder. The C:\Program Files folder already exists. You just need to create the HJT folder under it.

Did you try using the link that Kodo gave you. It can be very useful in removing problem installs which then enables you to reinstall.
