    Hi

This is a good read on how to secure your PC, with some Free software examples to use How to Protect yourself from malware!

My usual fav options for both are:

    AntiVirus ~ AVAST Home
    Firewall ~ Comodo

both linked to in the Guide above

My two favorite options for both Antivirus and Firewall (for Windows OS, of course) are:

    Antivirus: AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition
    [Windows 98 | Me /NT | 2000 | XP | XP Pro x64 | Vista X32 | Vista x64 Edition (and Linux i386)]

Note: AVG Anti-Virus Free is only available for single computer use for home and non-commercial use. The use of AVG Free within any organization or for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.

Firewall: ZoneAlarm Free Firewall [Windows 2000/XP | Vista (32-bit)]
Zone Alarm Hardware Requirements: Pentium III 800 MHz or higher and Minimum system RAM: 512 MB

Note: ZoneAlarm is FREE for "individual" and not-for-profit charitable entity use (excluding governmental entities and educational institutions).

    Good Luck!

    I use Avast Antivirus Pro
    http://www.avast.com/

and ZoneAlarm Pro, although be careful with ZoneAlarm as it likes to mess with people who don't know its intricacies. I think there are definitely better firewalls, I have had to do many workarounds with ZoneAlarm.

Avast is awesome though! In conjunction with these security programs:
    Spybot http://www.safer-networking.org/
    Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
    AVG Anti-Spyware http://free.grisoft.com/
    CCleaner

    CWShredder

    MRU and Spyware Blasters

    PeerGuardian

And These Programs for General Health of your PC:
    Diskeeper
    http://www.diskeeper.com/defrag.asp
    Registry Mechanic

This combination has kept me (almost) virus free, and completely free from BSODs and many other errors for almost four years now! :tas
