Anti Virus Pro 2008 - I've Got A Virus!!!

My desktop has been hit by a mega virus. I'm unfamiliar with what to do and need help. AntiVirus Pro 2008 has downloaded itself, most of what was available when clicking Start has disappeared, e.g. Control Panel. The desktop background on my monitor is now a vicious red with a "red devil" graphic on it, and a message underneath advising a major virus infection. None of the desktop shortcuts work. There are multiple pop ups all advising something or other about virus infection. My bottom menu bar has the words "Virus alert" in the bottom left corner. Can I, very much an amatuer, fix it or do I need to take it to a specialist Computer Shop / Repairers to have it sorted? Thanks, yours worriedly Mike
