Can someone tell me if there is an AV program that scans the registry as well as the hard drive and memory? I did a scan with Ad-Aware and found this.

    Windows Object recognized!
    Type : RegData
    Data :
    Category : Vulnerability
Comment : Possible virus infection, SCR file extension compromised
    Rootkey : HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
    Object : scrfile\shell\open\command
    Value :
    Data :

My AV (AntiVir Personal Edition) doesn't scan my registry, so I can't get rid of it. Thanks.

hi common just a quick question can you
press start- then run- then type regedit and press ok
to expand a tree click on the plus sign
expand the HK CLASSES ROOT key scroll down a fair way until you see SCRFILE then expand that
    then expand SHELL
    then expand open
and click on command it should show the value in the right hand window does it look like this
    Default REG_SZ "%1"/S

have a look and let us know

    Thanks for responding General.

    It looks like this: ' " '%1'' /S''

In the install section of SCRfile, I found this, C\WINDOWS\rundll32.exe desk.cpl,InstallScreenSav...

I haven't downloaded a screen saver. I don't use one. Is it a screensaver that comes with Windows?

dont panic the screen saver thing is normal
and the scr key is correct if it was corrupted it would have had a command line added which is the normal behaviour for worms etc
so ad-aware must be mis-reading somewhere but if you want to be really safe go here for an online scan and make sure you keep your anti-virus updated with the latest updates

AV checker down to Registry level

    Hi,

Check out www.pestpatrol.com. I run Pest patrol often. It definitely searches down to Registry level. The free version finds them but you have to delete them manually so be careful and back up your Registry first. The paid version deletes them automatically. I haven't tried the paid version yet but am seriously considering buying it, which is a rare event for me. I use freeware wherever possible as lots are as good as paid or commercial versions.

Go to Google and search on "pestpatrol" (no quotes) for lots of info.
