Does anyone know of a good anti virus software that I can buy outright without the yearly rent scam. Please:)

I don't want to sound snarky but there is no such thing, one pays for the continual updates. Otherwise go for the free ones. I've been using free for over 6 years and not a single instance of an infection.

I agree with 'Snarky'.:-D Some of the free ones work very well. I am using Avast on XP and Vista, has a small footprint, updates daily, seems to work well. Why not try some of the free ones, and if you don't like one of them, then pay for one. http://majorgeeks.com/Avast_Home_Edition_d1968.html

Using Avast Free Home Edition on all my machines too. I would rather have them protected by free anti virus as opposed to any paid for resource hungry suites.

I used Norton on 4 of my machines and Mcafee on the other 3, I was happy with them all until i realized i was paying for something that AVG gives me for free. I'm sure there was some difference, but only difference I noticed was that at the end of the year i could not update norton or mcafee until I paid my yearly fee for the privilege of downloading new virus definitions. With AVG no fee and knock on wood , for the past 2 years no problems what so ever.

Also to add to my above post, I've only had two or three things ever to get flagged and that was at the beginning of my internet life. Guess what, I was looking for things I shouldn't have, and no, not pron either!:p :-D

These days, the idiots are using other forms of infection besides the old e-mail route. Read up on what MG's recommends ATM in the malware forum sticky. Works for me and I have never needed the good services of these great people.:)
