   How the heck did I get hit with this (browsing on IE8) again?
   I keep my system up-to-date and secure as possible. I'm careful about
   the websites I visit.... the whole nine yards.
   
   I did notice I got a strange Instant Message popup asking me about some political issue. Of course, I didn't open it. Is it a good idea to disable Windows Messenger?

   Yes, it is a good idea to disable Messenger:
   
   Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.
