Antispyware Master removal?

Hello chaps,

Damsel in distress alert.

I used IE for about five minutes today and got hit by Antispyware Master. Looking around on the net I see it's a non trivial problem affecting quite a few people, but most of the solutions seem to involve downloading (and paying for?) software which looks almost as dubious.

I have Norton 360 running on my computer, a fat lot of good that is as it failed to prevent the attack or detect or delete it when run to solve the problem. I contacted the Symantec help system and, after an hour, their 'expert' tried to charge me $140 dollars for tackling a problem their product should have stopped in the first place!

So, my question is, how do I get rid of this nasty spyware rubbish without infecting my computer with someone else or messing it up by tinkering around with things I don't really understand?

Apologies if this is old hat. I'll have a go with the Combofix if there are no specific things i can do.

How do I turn the norton 360 off for a while to run Combofix though?

I hate computers!!!

Well, I plucked up my courage and ran combifix. My computer didn't blow up and seemed unaffected by the Norton 360 (does that thing do anything?). I hope the problem is solved now. Thanks for Combifix! I'll write back if the spyware rears its ugly head again.

Thanks. I ran the programme and it definitely picked up a few things and removed them. The nasty spyware hasn't popped back up again and my computer seems to be running properly. It was the uselessness of Norton which annoyed me! Thanks for replying anyway.
