Hey everyone just wondering what anyone thinks of this antivirus program or if there is a little better one out there that is free like this?
I havent had any problems or any virus problems but anything free tends to cost me in the end... Nortons too exspensive for my taste, and with friends who has had it they had negative comments so here I am....

Nothing wrong with the program at all! I personally use Avast Home Edition and recommend it to all my friends. It is also a freeware antivirus app.. I believe that you will find that most of the members of this board tend to favor the freeware programs. Browse through this link, http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads29.html.

Avira's AntiVir is (IMO) the best free antivirus program available. It has frequent auto-updates, and catches just about anything that tries to get in. I've been using it for over 3 years and have been recommending to everyone. I have only 2 problems with it, and they are very, very minor... the first is the "pop up" it has every 2 or 3 days asking you to look at the paid 'pro' version. You just click OK at the bottom and it's gone. The second little complaint is that the free 'license' expires every 6 months or so; the current one expires 05/31/2008 (actually about 2 or 3 weeks after that date). Updates will no longer be available after that date, but other than that the program still functions normally. All you do is uninstall it. Download the newest one and install it, and it's good for another 6 or 7 months. The program will start notifying the user about a month before the 'expiration' date. Other than these 2 very little inconveniences, I love it. I personally give it 4.8 stars out of 5. I think that AntiVir is much better than Norton. First, it's free. And 2nd, I have run scans with AntiVir on PCs running current Norton protection and found MANY viruses that got past Norton. That's all I need to know about Norton's effectiveness.
