I first noticed the XP2008 one, and then upon running various anti-malware, found others, and then others came... Also, get a popup of a fake, I believe, Windows Security Alert, warning of infection with trojan-spy.greenscreen. In trying my own methods, I discovered that ie.temp files keep getting re-infected, even after using Ccleaner, and also new ones created in system32. At first I got around it by creating new blank files in notepad with the same names, but then new names just popped up, all with gibberish-type spellings, such as rqluy... Even with Malabytes malaware and superantispyware running, and using the malabytes' special removal tool. So, here I am... However, at that time I didn't have spybot yet, so maybe that's addressed it. You tell me :) By that time I decided to just follow your steps all the way through (novel idea, huh?) Oh, and now a new fake? Windows Security Alert saying a different virus.
So, attached are my requested files. Thanks in advance for any and all help!

One more thing: I've also since gotten SuperAntiSpyware pro version, so have access to those features, if it should help in removal. Also, if you could advise if there's any of the programs: SAS, Spybot, Antiviri antivirus, etc., that I should or shouldn't be running in the meantime or until I do the repairs. Thanks again.

    Let's start with this:

If you haven't already, please disable the Guest account in User accounts.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Also delete all files in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp
    C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Temp

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Sweet...your logs are clean. Let's just do some cleanup from the process:

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Tell me if you are having any other issues?

Fantastic!! Thanks so much. I had tried to do it on my own, piecemeal with some of the programs here, without success. Thanks again; hopefully, for good! :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now.
    2. We recommed you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a scanner. It uses no resources except a little disk space until you run a scan.
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)

    * Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
    * "%userprofile%\Desktop\combo-fix" /u
o Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
o This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    * Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.

    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    8. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:

    * Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
    * Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
How to Protect yourself from malware!

Thanks again, Tim. I had read the protection scheme and started implementing it. Is the thinking on uninstalling SuperAntiSpyware simply that it isn't needed if one takes the appropriate other steps? I only ask since I had gone ahead and purchased it, thinking that the proactive, realtime settings would be helpful.

Just when you think you're out, they PULL you back in! As I was doing my housecleaning, I decided to take a manual look at where I had found problems, and in my system32 folder I found a new, very suspicious file: anifglcv.exe
This was the sort that would keep coming back. Now, maybe the cleaning of the registry was such that it won't come back (I deleted it with the Malabytes' Assassin program), but... I wasn't sure what I should try running to scan my system again, so if you'd be so kind as to advise... Sorry, not all out yet?

Sounds like you may have gotten reinfected.....if you want, download and run MGTools again and let me see the log.

Here are the MGTools zip files created. I hope it's okay that I didn't do all the pre-conditions that I had done before. I simply deleted the previous files created by mgtools and re-ran it. No ill effects or signs of further infection, so perhaps it isn't re-propogating; just got in from...? And Malawarebytes' Assassin got rid of it. But, you tell me... Thanks again.

The only thing I see is this:

    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\m65dgaxv.tmp

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.

    * Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    * Under Main choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.

    If you use Firefox browser

    * Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

    If you use Opera browser

    * Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    * Click the Empty Selected button.
o NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Thanks, Tim. It "appears" to be gone now, fwiw, but I'll run that anyway. Curious how ATF differs from CCleaner. or if CCleaner might've gotten rid of it (or some other program I've run?) Thanks again.
