    My husband was surfing the internet and clicked on some ad video in the corner of the screen which then promptly gave him some virus message and he shut down the computer. As this is a lengthy process and I was sick last week, I made several short attempts to clean the computer using Avast and Lavasoft Ad-Aware. Many infections were erased both times, but these two windows looking buttons kept apearing in the desktop tray informing me that I still had a virus and that I had an unregistered version of Antivirus 2009. It strongly recommended that I activate the program as my computer is not protected. I was clicks away from doing so (was to the point of just paying instead of using your free service) when I realized that there was no information on this screen that seemed legit. Then I read some threads and found out what was going on. As I was going through the cleaning process, the internet connection was spotty and I kept get a blue screen related to Antivirus 2009 informing me that Windows was shutting down to prevent an attack from some spymonster file and it would say "Beginning Physical Memory Dump" then it would turn into the Windows start up screen with a Antivirus registration recommendation and then my desktop would appear with what ever I was doing still running. Due to the internet connection, Spybot would not install initially and the Malware tool was run first. After rebooting my connection was back and I ran spybot. Now the only issue I notice is that avast is not reappearing in my tray at startup and I have to go into the program files and run ashDisp file to get it to show again - this may be related to asking it to stop protection during the last cleaning tool. Let me know what my next step is.

    Thanks - your site is always a lifesaver.;)

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    o If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Drivers::
    xpvnxsro
    phwr

    File::
    c:\windows\SYSTEM32\TDSSosvd.dat
    c:\windows\SYSTEM32\kxylqpbyjefn.exe
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\fprvchyo.sys
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\ftksov.sys

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    You are running less than the bare minimum for xp:
    Code:
    Total Physical Memory    256.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory    37.18 MB

    You need to add more ram!

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combo.

    One more to remove:

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following ( be sure to re-enable when we are finished):

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the "Input script here:"
    part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.
    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.
