I read and followed the instructions in the read and run me first section.

I have a machine with XP on it. It was infected with Antivirus 2010.

I was able to run SAS,MBAM,combofix.and MGTools. RootRepeal got stuck on the initializing screen. I read from some of the other posts on this site to just skip it.

Logs attached, please advise on any additional steps needed.

Thanks, this site is awesome for help removing malware.

Antivirus 2010 <=== Are you able to uninstall this? I am still seeing it in your installed programs listing.

Uninstall these outdated java software but leave version 6.21 alone!

    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_03
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_05
    • Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_06
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 7

Important Notice: A new version of SUPERAntiSpyware is available.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this log later.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SIGNUP\SET149.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SIGNUP\SET227.tmp
    C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\SIGNUP\SET95B.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\temp\pcf3.tmp
    Registry::
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{65D886A2-7CA7-479B-BB95-14D1EFB7946A}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670}]
    [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects\{02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670}\NoExplorer]

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Also attach the new log from SAS and let me know about seeing Antivirus 2010 in add/remove. If you cannot uninstall it perhaps we can use Your Uninstaller or similar.

Antivirus 2010 was in my add/remove programs listing. When I clicked to remove it yesterday it said something about not able to uninstall, doesn't seem to be installed would you like to remove the program from the add/remove programs list. I chose no.

This morning when trying to remove through add/remove programs it states An error occured while trying to remove Antivirus 2010. You do not have access to \\.\globalroot\systemroot\system32\userinit.exe. You can specify the new uninstall program below and gives me an option to browse for a file.

The problems that Antivirus 2010 were giving me have gone away, it is not hounding me with the rogue antivirus warnings that it was before I was able to scan.

I have uninstalled the java elements as instructed.

When I installed SAS yesterday, it told me there was a new version, I could have sworn I let it install the new version before I ran my scan. The computer rebooted before the scan and everything. No worries, I downloaded and ran the new version as instructed. The new log came up clean.

Combofix and MGtools ran without a hitch.

    Logs attached as requested.

    Try using Your Uninstaller!

    Otherwise...
    Say yes.

Let me know how you get on, and I shall have to review your latest logs after work if I don't finish too late, otherwise it will be Sunday evening unless another malware fighter pops in. Either way, I suspect you will be all ready for final steps soon, but that will only be decided upon reviewal of the logs. Thanks for your patience.

Your Uninstaller worked great. It was able to remove the entry for Antivirus 2010.

I believe I am having no further problems with this machine. Thanks for your help, I will await the final review of logs and the final steps.

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
