AntiVirus Live V2.7

Well these guys are getting even better. Picked this one up yesterday and it disabled all my antivirus/firewall protections and would not allow access to the internet. I had to go and pay the $50 (going to cancel the card and see if I can do a charge back) just so I could try to get it out.

I followed all the instructions for Malware removal. I had uninstalled the Antivirus Live from the Add/Remove in the control panel. When I got to the step to run Combofix it said that the program Antivirus Live was still running. It even showed in System Mechanic that was the antivirus protection I was running rather than McAfee. I actually just checked and it is still showing Antivirus live as the active program.

Clearly I have not gotten this off my computer. I have attached the logs. It appears I can only attach 4 files so I have not attached the MGTools but I can do that in another post if that would be useful.

You guys have helped me out before and anything you can do to help will be appreciated. At the end of the day I may end up just doing a clean install of Windows 7.

    Thanks

    Steve Ackley

You appear to have multiple AV and Firewalls installed. Authentium/iolo and McAfee! And you should only have one. I suggest that you immediately uninstall the iolo software you have installed to avoid the conflicts you are causing with McAfee and also the massive waste of sysem resources.

It shows System Mechanic too because it is installed and running.

Doesn't you McAfee Security Center also contain an antispyware program? If yes, then you should also uninstall the less the ineffective Ad-Aware.

So to summarize, uninstall all of the below:
    Ad-Aware
    Authentium AntiVirus SDK - 2
    iolo technologies' System Mechanic
    Java(TM) 6 Update 16 << old version

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

I could not find the Authentium AntiVirus SDK - 2
however I did unistall the other programs. I ran the rest of the procedures and all seems well--I had to go to the combofix site to get my internet back. The problem is....I dont know that we have gotten the AntiVirus Live out. I paid the silly $50 to buy the program as I could not access the internet at all, so I assume I have a bit of a reprieve but they may well be able to fire it back up....I think.

    I appreciate your help.

    Thanks

It is still there and still running as shown by the below in your HijackThis log:
Looks like iolo did not properly cleanup after themselves since there are other service entries from them remaining too. We will have to run another fix.

No! It is gone. The reason you could not access the internet is because they configured your browser to use a proxy server when you do not need one. All you needed to do was removing the setting saying to use a proxy server. I do suggest that you cancel the credit card number that you used to purchase this. You do not want these people to have your credit card info. That is what they were phishing for.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all of McAfee including the firewall or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

You're welcome. Your logs are clean and you now have almost 200 MB more free memory too.;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

I seem to find that when I have run combofix, it disappears off the desk top. It is still in the D drive (my primary drive). All the other procedures worked. With respect to superantispyware and malwarebytes, are u suggesting that I buy them or just keep them loaded in the event of another problem? If so, will they interfer with McAfee?

    Once again--thanks

    Steve

    You're welcome.
Possibly due to some protection software. It was still showing in the last logs you attached and your Desktop is on drive D.

We are saying keep them installed and updated to use as backup scanners. No they will not interfere with McAfee since the free versions provide no protection. They are only after the fact scanners. They infact will find and remove many many things that McAfee will not even detect.
