antivirus soft- huge headache!

    Hi Moderators,

    I can't add or remove programs, I can't run any anti-virus software. Each time I try a window pops up and says the file is infected. Ads for porn pop up all over, and the antivirus soft ad pops up over and over. I can't seem to open the computer up on a guest account either since the virus won't allow me to switch.

    What steps should I try? I have windows 98.

    Nothing really supports this OS anymore. You really need to update. But in lieu of doing that, you should begin by just booting into DOS and editing your autoexec.bat and config.sys files to remove anything that appears to be suspect. If you are not sure what is suspect, put your autoexec.bat and config.sys into a ZIP file and attach them here. If you cannot ZIP them, then make copies of them and rename the copies to autoexec.txt and config.txt and attach the copies. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )
