Antivirus XP recently infected my system. I followed your steps in removing it. So far it seems as though its gone, along with a few other trojans I must of had. If you could just look over my logs and let me know if there is anything further I should do reguarding cleanup or otherwise.

Your logs are clean...but a few things you need to do:

Run this: Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    Download and install:
    Java Runtime 6

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

If you did get a success message, then it is time to do our final steps:

I received a success message after doing the reg edit. and deleted the combofix and mgtools successfully. I do have a question about the firewall and the realtime antivirus blockers; do you recommend different ones for XP as you do for Vista? On my laptop I downloaded the PCtools free versions of each. Would that be the one to use on XP or go with the Avast? Thanks again for all the help

It is mostly a personal choice ...what works for you and you can easily configure. Just be aware that no anti-virus is 100% effective as the malware has to surface before the companies can issue updates to guard against them.
