    Hello,
I am working under Window XP and the graphic card started to fail. I ran superantispyware and detected Antrology.exe as threat and deleted it. All looked good but after rebooting the graphic didn't work at all. I had a couple of time that even the hole system fail to restart... :(

In the device manager shows the device cannot start code 10.
    I updated the driver
    Unistalled and Installed again
    ... and nothing

Restore to a before date... nothing

Then I notice another error: an unknown device with device instnace id:
    ROOT\LEGACY_NPF\000

The graphic card is NVIDIA GEFORCE 8400 GS

so I wonder if the device is dead or if it is possible that a virus or the aftermath of a virus is creating the problem.

I posted a threat in the hardware forum and they recommended me to start here in the malaware forum and be sure that no virus are involved in the problem first.

I attached logs and screen capture to show the problem. Sorry but I can't attached because this files are already uploaded on http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=267560
Please let me know if you can see them there or how to proceed to delete them and upload them again here.

Any help I will appreciate it

    Thank you for your time,

    vv

ps. Notice that I had some difficulties with HitmanPro because my graphic card is not working, so the screen frame is reduced and I could scan but couldn't get the log link. I attached a screen capture instead.

Never heard of that filename. Are you sure you spelled it correctly?

At any rate, I do not believe you are having malware problems. You should stay in the hardware forum and work thru the issues with your graphics card software/drivers.

    Hi Chaslang,

Sorry I couldn't get back sooner with a response. I couldn't get back to work in this issue till now.

I am afraid I did spell wrong the name of the possible virus, so here is SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log at that time:

Coincidentally with that the graphic card started to fail to finally can't start any more as I explained before.

Other thing I noticed was an unknown device in the Device Manager. In the detail of this unknown device I can see Device Instance Id:
    ROOT\LEGACY_NPF\0000

I would like to check this first with you before going to the hardware forum and eliminate in this way any possibility of infection.

    Thank you for your help,

    vv

More than likely not even a problem. You should know what this is since you more than likely saved in you My Documents folder. Probably was some kind of astrology program.

    Not related to the above.

Also not related to your graphics card problem and also not malware. This is a service for WinPCAP which is commonly installed with Wireshark and also sometimes used with some games. It is a driver for aiding in packet capturing.

You couldn't be more clear. Unfortunately everything point to a broken device.. :(
Thank you so much for your time and help!!

    You're welcome.

Since you are not having malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
