Any MG Aussies using Broadband? What are you using? How much?
What ISP would you recommend? Any Westnet users?
What ISP would you NOT recommend and why?
Any FNQ or NQ'ers out there using Broadband?
    Need help deciding. Thanks. Bazza

You oughta try Cairns. Beautiful weather all year round. No snow, even the rain is warm. Overnight temp at the moment is around 70 degrees F, or 20 degrees C, and it's supposed to be Winter. Bazza

Australia is big alright, mate (as Steve Erwin might say). As wide across as America. Only 6 states, 2 territories. One stretch of road is over 200 miles straight, without a bend. You can drive thousands of miles, and/or kilometres, and still be in the same state. Where I used to live, it was (and probably still is), over 500 miles, or 800 kilometres, to the next GAS station. Nhulunbuy (Gove) to Katherine. Both in the NT (Northern Territory). Bazza

PS: Still no Aussies replying to my broadband query, though. Baz

dunno if you still need answers, but heres some.. not that i'm a broadband whiz or anything

The broadband we're on is bliink, part of iiNet.
its been pretty damn good to us, much better than the dialup version we used to have. i have no idea how much we pay, but we have an annual fee.
my cousin uses westnet and hes very happy with it, its fast and reliable. and i have seen many computer stores in my area displaying huge advertisements for westnet, so thats gotta be a good thing, right?
the other dialups that i know of would be iPrimus and of course, bigpond and optus. but personally, i think the optus is too expensive....
you really need to shop around for good broadband (we didnt!)
check out the websites of as many companies as you can.

Thanks for the reply. Gonna check out Westnet. Gets a good reputation here in Cairns. I'll keep away from iPrimus. After they took over AOL Australia, the connection speed went to hell (with a Australian wide phone number---on my laptop that previously gave 50,000 regularly, it went down to 31,200 with an alternate number they gave me).

Some people advise against Bigpond, but a lady I know has good reports on it. Had occasion to use their on-line help, for her, recently. The guy on the other end was extremely helpful. Spent over an hour there. The problem turned out to be the phone connection on the wall. Telstra fixed that within 24 hours.

Guess I'm gonna have to research their websites, as you suggested. Probably go with the best modem/contract/connection fee deal. Bazza

    Hi Guys,
Im a pom who has been living in Australia now for 40years. I was only 5 when we immigrated.
Ok, Im using cable broadband, with Telstra unlimited (which isnt really, but its 10k)
it costs me $56.00 per month and its one of the most popular deals.
    Hope that helps a bit.
    Jane

Thanks janeagain, but I am not interested in cable. Budget is set at $30 per month, maximum. Bazza
