i love the stuff, can't get enough of it... my favorite brands would have to be Jack Links and Pemmican... In my drunken stupor last night i ordered homemade beef jerky off Ebay... seller had excellent feedback from prior beef jerky purchases and has like 5 different flavors to choose from... i went with the Hawaiian style:

"Our Hawaiian Beef Strips are marinated with a natural unsweetened pineapple juice and brown sugar then gently smoked. The result is a taste like old-fashioned baked ham. Very tender!"

    sounds GOOD!

Your favourites are the ones in the package that can be purchased at supermarkets????? Yikes. I'm afraid you must cease and desist using the title "aficionado" immediately. ;) :D

Homemade is the only way to go, either homemade by you, or by a friend, or by a small corner grocery store. My favourite since childhood (other than my dad's) has been the stuff available only at the Dublin Market in northwest Michigan. It's a tiny little town where probably 1/4 of the population has made a pilgrimage to buy jerky at least once in their lifetime. They make beef, sure, but they also have turkey, pork, venison, ostrich, buffalo, and elk. http://www.dublinstore.com/

I got lucky, my sister bought a cabin about ten minutes from there, so I get it all the time now without having to drive 150 miles. :D

well, those are my favorite generic brands... my favorite favorite jerky comes from a local shop in my old hometown called the Cheeseshop... and i don't know where they get it...

unfortunately i don't own a food dehydrator but my eldest brother does and all i've had from him was some deer jerky, which was tasty!

You got a stove or a grill? That's all you need (along with the right spices) to make the best jerky around m8. Homemade jerky is always the BEST!

I love jerky! My fav is the honey terriyaki flavor, I can't remember the brand name as it's new at my supermarket, but it's so soft you don't have to rip your teeth out biting into it!
My brother used to have some kind of gadget that he made his own, but it's long gone now, never got a chance to try it.
My step-dad got some kind of a smoking gadget which he made some deer jerky, but I refuse to eat deer so I guess I'll just have to wait until he smokes up some beef!
That plate of jerky looks real good! YUM!

Here's a good source for making your own jerky. Show's many different techniques. I use either the oven or the grill (smoker grill is my preferred method).

Wow, all this time I thought it was illegal to sell deer meat/jerkey. Maybe it is in Indiana. Looks like I'll be importing some Hell Fire Venison.
