Any better antivirus programs than norton?

I am fed up with Norton! It slows down my computer and creates SO many errors! Are there any better, possibly freeware, anti virus programs out there?

 

I've been extremely happy with Free AVG. I've been on a college campus network for about 2.5 years and never had an issue with a virus-- that wasn't my own fault It's easy to configure, you can schedule it to run daily, it's free-- as implied by its name. Give it a go!

Yes, there are several such antivirus applications, and they are available for download on MajorGeeks home page. Although, I'm a long time computer user, I still haven't gotten the hang of posting links on web pages or in emails. Just scroll to the bottom of this page and click on the antivirus tab. This should carry you to MajorGeek's homepage - antivirus section. There you should find Avast and AVG, both of which tend to be favored by board members. Avast does require you to register, but gives you an activation code good for 14 or 16 months. Then, just register again. Both AVG and Avast are good applications, I personally use Avast, and have since ditching Norton's, and I wouldn't swap back! Others opinions may vary! Hope this helps!

I have Norton AV and Firewall, if I uninstall NAV, will it scre my firewall up? Or should I switch both AV and firewall?

 

Not freeware, but I love eTrust.

 

kaspersky is the best IMO, gives me a warm fuzzy feeling all over

 

I hate to be negative, but I've had horrible experiences with eTrust. All sorts of third party programs get errors or hang.
