If I wanted to know all about getting Broadband Internet in Yorkshire, which website would I look at?

I've googled, but the response is staggering. I have a non-geek in a small Dales village who is overwhelmed by the process.

    Anything to make it easier.

    Thanks all

The main advice i can give is do not go for smaller companies, reason being if your internet goes down their response time is lagging real bad, if it is possible to go with one of the bigger companies i would do that.

BT is who i am with, and because they own the lines itself and the exchanges their response to repairs is excellent..

This site gives a pretty good round-up - http://www.broadbandchecker.co.uk/ - I use Tiscali myself through a BT phoneline - no problems or complaints in the 6 months I've had it.

I use Force 9, a 2Mb connection, a domain, unlimited email, static IP etc for £22.99.

Zero complaints about the connection or their efficiency.

I say to you with all sincerity, do not use Bulldog.

    Another question...

I'm trying to find out how much it costs to call Canada from the UK with BT. So far I've got a range from 2p to 29p a minute. Anyone know how I can get a definite answer to that?

It all depends on what call package your on,Bt has about 10 different ones  ,unless you change your package to a long distance one,it would veer more toward the 29p a min price.

As an alternate what about voip?all you need is one computer on broadband, start an account with skype,it costs £5.00 for about 5 hours of international call time and the credit can be used up to 6 months from the date of purchase, with this you can call any national or international number from your computer.

dont quote me on the prices, but its cheeper than bt :D

I'm not suprised at all Mr P that you get varied prices as BT have many options on Internation call pricing.

    BT Together International Call Prices
    BT Together International option
    BT Together Low International Rates
    Friends and Family Overseas

The BT Together International Call prices vary from day to time of day,
and range from 6ppm to 16ppm

I would link you to the page I'm reading but it would session out before you get to it, but follow this

http://www.bt.com/Pricing/index.jsp > click BT Together Low International Rates near bottom of page > then click on left menu BT Together International Call Prices click C for Canada and bingo.

one option maybe to use Friends & Family overseas as that gives a further 10% off normal call charges... she would need to register or call BT to get both the Together and Friends & Family options.

    BT Together International option

EDIT: Nice alternative option Rikky :)

    I use PlusNet www.plus.net

Hmm... see somthing familiar? ;) Plusnet's DNS servers are actually hosted at Force9, and Force9 uses the PlusNet cgi platform I believe. Thats not even thinking about PlusNet.com....

You are of course right Goldie. I use Force 9 because they're a little geekier in Technical and have a faster response. I will also be upgraded to 4Mb when the service is available at the same price. Frankly I was so intent on leaving Bulldog I would have paid more.

Hmm, can't say I've particularly noticed that but hey :) Might move our contract over to them see if their tech support is any better :)

I use NTL but wouldn't recommend it. I'm on a 2Mb service but it rarely gets anywhere close to that. :( The tech support is patchy at best - generally a case of "reset this, reset that - oh that DIDN'T work? We're stumped then. Bye"... click....

I had a long post for you but Windows/Maxthon ate my machine. Luckily I'm running Linux as well, bed time now but I'll put together some of the choicest examples and PM you.

In the meantime have a look at this.
