Any cheap easy programming software

Hi,
Years ago when I had a mac (yes really), I used to use programs like Hypercard and Supercard. Well I still use a mac, but mainly Windows. Anyway, I am a volunteer tutor for teaching English and I'd like to create little learning programs. Toolbook, which I would love to have, is way too expensive. Does anyone know of software that is similar but doesn't cost two arms and two legs. Cheaper the better in fact. Anyway, I just thought I'd put that past y'all.

Help to know what age and type of programs.

 

Yeah you're right there. Well literacy classes are usually for adults, but I guess software for children could be modified. As long as I can make them up myself and add my own pics and wording. Hypercard was the best teaching program ever. I don't know why it was never taken past the 90s. There really is a niche there for some clever programmer. I'm not looking for ready made programs to use. I'm looking for a program that will allow me to design my own teaching programs. Thanks for those links though. They would be useful.

 

Hypercard and its ilk lost out to Powerpoint.
Another case of lesser technology winning.

Although Powerpoint is not free, it is inexpensive and well supported. You may be best off with it.

 

I have powerpoint and it is very useful indeed. However, you cannot program with it. You can't make it interactive.
I did find some programs though that are based on the hypercard principles. One that I've downloaded is called RevMedia and it looks great. It' just like hypercard, but better. So now I have to get up to speed on the language.
