    I've been clearing out some space on my PC by burning old videos and the such into DVDs; however, I've been having some problems when converting these files.

    Here's what I usually do -->

    • Output Setting: Constant Video Quality
    • Quality: Higher
    • Split the Output File:Check the tick box and leave at default value (1013Mb)
    • Set Chapter Length: Check the tick box and leave the ammount of seconds blank
    • Target Format:NTSC
    • Aspect Ratio: 4:3
    • Preference: Speed
    • Audio Bitrate: 192kbps

    With these settings I have successfully burned a couple of DVDs, but now when I encode a new batch and burn them... when I play the DVD on my player I cant press skip like before to go to a different video... for some reason now its playing the DVD as an entire chapter and I'd have to sit through the entire thing to watch the last video...

    Help, anyone?

    :confused:

    Uncheck the Chapter Length box or add a value. I suspect checking the box and leaving the value blank is giving you an infinite chapter length.

    Thats how I've done the other DVDs (check & leave blank) and it worked fine, wonder why all of a sudden it would change and screw up the conversions.

    I tried the unchecked option today in the morning (just to see if it would change anything) and it converted the four videos (45, 53, 40 and 50 mins each) into three equal sized large .VOB files and one small 400Mb .VOB file. It's weird I remember before when the DVDs worked fine it used to create multiple .BUP & .IFO files now it only gives me one of each and four .VOB files!

    :rolleyes:

    Solution --> WinAVI Downgrade

    Searching around the net for some possible solutions I came accross various forums with people having a LOT of issues with the newer versions of WinAVI.

    From what I gather version 6.3 is the most stable version so I just uninstalled v7.1 and downgraded to v6.3. It's hard to find, because most download sites (including the official site) only offer the newest version for download, but I found one that works great (here's the direct download link)

    This version is not only relatively bug-free (great, hassle-free conversions, EVERYTIME) but also manages to convert files FASTER!

    :D
