Any Firefly fans around?

Since I don't have cable, I never saw the TV show "Firefly". A friend has the whole series on DVD, plus the movie Serenity that was done after the show was cancelled, and I just finished watching it all. I fell in love with the show and the characters, and can't believe it was canned after one season.

 

I've actually never heard of it!! Can you brief me on it?? Maybe I can recall it!?!?!

Fox shuffled it around and finally buried it in a graveyard time slot. They have a habit of killing quality TV shows for gems like 'Married with Children'.

Sci-Fi channel was playing them on Fridays @ 7 PM for awhile. Now they have John Doe on at that time. Another one season Fox show. I liked them both.

The new Battlestar Galactica is my favorite Sci-Fi series these days.

 

fireflys ( lightning bugs) should be out soon here in Illinois, Always a sure sign of summer!!!!

Well, I have yet to actually get hold of Firefly to watch - have been trying to get the Dvd's for my brother - a very late Christmas pressie.

I LOVE Serenity though!! It's awesome and we picked that up on Dvd the other day - actually no, I think it's on lay-by. Anyway, we'll have it sooner or later.

Funny story, we named our youngest girl Inara Chaeli (pronounced Kaylee) after we saw Serenity(not just because of it, we really did like the names). It's hilarious though, cause ppl are like, oh wow, where'd you get that name? and we're like oh yeah just heard it somewhere and liked it and the meaning and stuff . Most ppl I know haven't seen it - their loss. *shrug*

So yeah, Serenity fan here! *wave*

Yep, and they've been out for a while here. Spring & summer come earlier down here.

If you liked the movie, you'll like the series. The opening scene in the movie happens just before where the series starts, and the rest of the movie happens after the series plot ends... ended with a lot of loose ends, since it was killed.

Amazon.com has both the series and movie on DVD, with a combination package at discount. I just ordered them both for myself. Definitely a keeper.

I had heard that the series all takes place before the movie. Am really looking forward to having the chance of watching it all.

I've watched almost all the series and the movie.

Its one of those niche series, it only appeals to a few people. I liked it, and was sucked in, but IMO it just didn't have enough depth to be a lasting series.

 

Its not long been out on DVD in the UK (Serenity, that is) and whilst I'd hoped to watch the series first and then the movie for some sort of chronology I buckled and rented it.
I was not disappointed

I love Joss Whedons writing - its very sharp. I thought the Buffy and Angel series had some oustanding features and it was nice to see the qualities I miss from some of their better episodes in this.

I'm definitely going to be tracking down the series to watch!

 

Watched the Firefly movie some time back, which was fairly good, i.m.o. Haven't seen the series yet. Serenity, I've seen and liked as well. Galactica was a pretty good series too.

 

Loved firefly, still watch it the dvd every couple months.

 

after hearing about how good the movie is, i think i'd like to start watching this.

 

no fireflies in hawaii, but when i stayed in delaware there were hundreds of them. beautifull.

 

We don't have fireflies here, just huge black flying Kamikaze roaches.

Wow - I had totally forgotten about the show. I only saw a couple episodes, but really liked them. Have to rent the DVDs now !!

 

Firefly rocks So does Serenity. Uber cool in multiple dimensions.

I saw Serenity, the movie a few weeks back, and it was pretty good. Quiet well done, I thought.
