any free porn filters out there?

I have two young children and was wondering are there any free filters that work to keep porn off my pc?

I use Windows XP, Windows 7, and Firefox. When I used the Firefox filter years ago, I didn't like it, and when I wanted to take it off, I couldn't remove it.

I can't speak from experience. But, here's one tool you might try: WebAllow 3.15

 

First of all, before I give you a software suggestion, let me say that educating your children in internet use, and supervision, can't be replaced by ANY software, paid or not. The internet should be an experience that they learn WITH you.

Now, with that said, blocking software is a good "backup" safeguard, and I like K9 Web Protection. It's really effective (though no blocking software is going to block everything all the time... the internet's just too big and diverse) and you can choose what you want blocked, you can make exceptions for certain sites, etc. It uses a web interface (though it's a local program).

You can also use it to set up times when the internet can and can't be accessed, etc. Also, it has internet usage reports.

It's NOT a hidden program, but it's not very intrusive in your computer experience, either.

Just do not forget the password you set on it, or you will likely have to format your hard drive to remove it. If I recall correctly, it allows a recovery email address to be setup if you need the password sent to you.

I think your best bet is OpenDNS FamilyShield which is Free.

Using OpenDNS will make your computer more secure and you can choose which filters to apply.
