I'm looking for some good DVD burning software? Is it possible to create an image of a DVD like you do a CD?

Yes, in fact, that is how I would recommend backing up DVDs.

DVDFab Decrypter does an excellent job of removing encryption from a disk, and creating a full-size ISO image file

DVD Shrink will take an unencrypted image, and allows you to reauthor (such as taking off subtitles, alternate languages, etc), and compress the image to fit on a single-layer disc (if necessary). This spits out ISO files as well.

ImgBurn does a great job of burning an ISO image file to disk. Use this once you have an unencrypted (and compressed, if necessary) ISO file.

    All are freeware!

if you plan on backing up a dvd (copying a dvd that has stuff on it already) the your going to need the following
*dvdshrink (this shrinks the contents of the disk from 8Gb (most movie disks have more than 4Gb of memory they think that this will make copying disks harder well not anymore)
*dvdfab free (this removes all of the copyright restriction on the disk that prevent from making copies)
imgburn (can't burn a cd image without a cd burning program its easier to use than nero so stick to it)

first download and install dvdripper, img burn and download dvdfab free its only an exe file no installation required

open dvdshrink and up in the top left corner of the window there should be a button that says "open disk" click it and select the disk drive that has the dvd in it then the program will analyze it for a few moments (the speed depends on your system) when its done there should be a button on the top saying "backup" click it and select "harddrive folder" then in the text box below it click on browse and select where you want the video_ts and audio_ts files to be (the audio_ts file is of no importance to us so you can delete it when your done)

next run dvdfab (its probiably under freedvd.exe) then search for the video_ts file you made earlier then dvd fab will remove any encryptions

next open up dvdshrink again this time we are going to make the iso image for bruning this process will take a while as well be patient, open up the video_ts folder and the program will analyze again then go and click backup and now save it as an iso file give it some time to make it and when its done move on to the final step

open up imgburn after putting a blank dvdr disk in the drive, ask it to burn the image file to disk and browse for the iso file dvdshrink created earlier and hit burn, your backed up copy of the dvd should be done and playable on all dvd players (older dvd player don't play home authored dvd disks but this is a copy of a pre made one so it will work no doubt)
