Any place to get help in Japanese?

Hello.

I have an in-law who speaks Japanese and limited English.

Are there any reliable help forums he can use to cure his start up and shut down problems?

Hi

Likely yes, but I dont know any reliable ones off hand as I dont speak Japanese to tell (best off hand one would be Microsoft Answers for Japanese users HERE), but to assist you in this does your in-law have anyone with them who does speak good English? as if they do we can help here, you just need to post the issue and info like...

Any error messages, if so what are they in full?
Windows version and Service Pack?
Is the error apparent in Safe Mode if you boot to that (tap F8 at boot to get to the safe mode menu)?
When did this start, was it after installing a new update or software?

Hi.

I know this doesn't help much but I suspect he is using XP.

His English is limited but he's a pretty bright teenager in school.

Say's his computer won't shut down without holding the off button.

Then he can't get it started again.

Took it to a shop and they said it didn't have any virus.

Any general tips for XP that won't shut down or start up. He's just leaving it run now. Not sure how he got it started again.

Have him look at the Event Viewer, if there is any indication what is preventing the shutdown.

Before shutting down, check the Task Manager to see what's running.

Have him try this.

*Take out the battery,
*Remove main supply,
*Hold power button down for 30 secs,
*Put only power supply in, do not put battery in
*Turn laptop on
*Put the battery in.
