I can't seem to find a "BSD" flavor that will run on my Acer Aspire 5050. Yes, it is a pile of junk, but it's upgraded to an AMD dual core 2.5Ghz and is not maddeningly slow. A PC-BSD DVD makes it to the desktop, when the last icon starts to come up it crashes and reboots....

I suspect the oddball, non Radeon compatible, "Radeon" video chipset is the weakest link in the machine and the reason it crashes. Mint, Puppy and PcLinuxOS run great on it, but I need to run BSD for a project I'm working on.

PC-BSD seems to be a good way to get freeBSD on a computer, SO close but no joy..

I have had a stroke so the CPU in my head is a little slow.... I thought I would ask if anyone has any suggestions or has had any luck with their Acer and BSD...

    Hi orgelkraft-

You would maybe want to try this FreeBSD Forums thread.

When in Mint, or PcLinuxOS, try and see what you have for an exact match for the card.
