Is there a way to run .exe files within ubuntu live CD enviroments?

I'm usuing the latest version of ubuntu 10.10

 

I don't want to interfere with anyone who knows the answer from helping out. I'm just conjecturing.

As far as I know you have to use Wine to run Windows .exe files. I guess it depends on what .exe you are trying to run. Here is a searchable Wine database that tells you if a program is supported. It seems to be more about running programs than command type .exe files.

I know you can put Ubuntu on a USB stick with persistence (which should allow the installation of Wine). Then you might be able to run the listed .exes but I don't know if an actual Windows command would run.

 

yes, you can run .exe files in ubuntu. but, as sach2 commented...you have to have WINEHQ. After installing WINEHQ, just simply type the following command...$ wine application.exe

replace application with the name of your .exe file

This software will put a Linux ISO on USB and if you give enough space to persistence (probably 500mb should be enough) it should let you install Wine to the USB and you could test it out.

 

Thats what I did and ended up dual booting shortly after
