Anybody Have Any Experience With "windows Boot Genius"

It looks like it would solve a lot of issues for me but I'm hesitant to try unknown software. Any one here use it?

I used to make and use bootable CDs with various tools including Ghost and Partition Magic. But none of the later computers will give me access to the CD after I boot from it.

I've been out of the IT profession for awhile and I'm finding my tricks and tactics are getting rusty...

    Any suggestions?

Don't know anything about Boot Genius but think you will find EasyBCD quite helpful. Forget about bootable CDs etc as EasyBCD boots ISOs straight off the hard disk. Virtually first thing I install when setting up.

I want to clone the drive and I used to do that with Ghost but I can't run it from a bootable CD anymore. I found that Boot Genius is seriously expensive and not at all worth the cost for how often I'd use it.

Plenty of choice for that but I'd recommend Macrium Reflect. If you first install EasyBCD you can boot Macrium through that, though you don't have to do that as you can create a bootable ISO within the program and burn it..

I use an older version of Acronis True Image. This is a paid program but they do run sales from time to time. I install it then make both a boot CD and a boot USB stick because two of our home computers have no optical drives.

I test the boot CD and boot stick to be sure I can load Acronis before Windows kicks in. It loads into RAM. Then I use Revo uninstaller to completely remove Acronis from the computer. I don't want an image program to depend on running Windows.

I'd guess that in the past several years, I've had to restore an image on all four computers at one time or another.

I have 6 portable external hard drives that I create images on from 4 - 6 weeks. I rotate the drives so if one drive stops working, I still have images on 5 other drives that I can use if I need to restore. I don't store any images in the cloud. In fact, about the only thing I put in the cloud are files that are not critical if shared with the world.

I, too, used Ghost for years. I burned CDs as backups. I'd hate it when I'd test the CDs and discover one was bad then I'd need to start over. Eventually I discovered Acronis was so much better.

Review and pricing options outlined here

Ever tried Redo? http://redobackup.org/ I do have Boot Genius, I just use it to try to fix boot issues. What do you mean you can't access the CD? What are you trying to do? Backup to CD/DVD?

My guess would be he has a new computer with a UEFI mainboard/BIOS and it won't allow booting from external drives until safe boot is disabled and possibly legacy boot is enabled.
