Anybody have SPAM comments/advice??

Soooo, let's talk about SPAM. I hear a lot of information about spam and how to rid yourself of it.

Many people advise either getting throw away email accounts or complete email secrecy. My challenge is that I own a small staffing company. We HAVE to post on the internet and in forums or anywhere to attract candidates. Because we do that, our spam is getting larger and larger. I'm running Spamhilator. It's okay but not great. I've owned the firm for several years, about six years actually. I just don't remember SPAM being this bad when I was working for someone else. My webguy said that spam has gotten 10X worse since I was in a large networked environment.

What do you think? Does a larger networked environment have better controls over SPAM? If so, can I get it for next to nothing (I am a small business, you know). What else can I do?

I'd love to hear your thoughts and listen to your advice.

I've found the most effective solution for spam is to have a third party do your filtering. Our ISP offers spam filtering, and they do a damn good job, I must say. They have very few false positives, and spam RARELY reaches us here.

However, since you are looking for a cost effective solution, I might recommend using Mozilla Thunderbird as an email client. Its free, and has the best spam filter that I've seen in an email client. This is an adaptive filter, and will learn to block more and more spam. There is also a SPF verification extension that you can install that will check address@domain.com with domain.com to see if the address has been forged. This is great for finding phishing scams. However, even this excellent client cannont keep up with the sheer volume and mutative ability of spam.
