Its realling kicking my butt today. I was diagnosed 3 yrs ago with seasonal asthma. Haven't had an episode in over a year. Got a mild cold recently and it is really taking its toll today. Ugh...

I can never tell if I'm in allergy hell or if it's the asthma they decided out of the blue almost a year ago I have. Either way, breathing is definitely a challenge. Sucks, don't it?

I'm on Advair, Singulair, Zyrtec, and NasacortAQ, and I'm still stuffed up and wheezing. :(

I do - not nice waking up not being able to breath  And colds are NOT nice. However, I got a flu jab from the nice NHS - so in theory I shouldn't get anything too life-threatening.

I had as a kid, and I guess outgrew it…..it came back to trouble at age 30, not helping at all, was I was smoking three packs of smokes a day…..I quit 13 years ago, but the asthma is still kicking my butt…I’ve taken a lot of things, but Advair has worked the best…my heath insurance does pay for it, but the cost if it didn’t. Just got a new refill, and the price was on part of it, the cost is $172, for a month. I use one puff twice a day. And I use Singulair works very well….wobbles

Me, same as Wobbles. Smoked 25-30 years, 2+ packs a day. Quit 15 years ago but still have emphysema and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) for which there is no cure, only treatment. I have reduced pulmonary function test results - will never improve. Tried Advair diskus, no help. Other inhalers - no help. I took antihistamines like ornade for years, til they took if off the market. Now I am on Singulaire daily - it helps. I can't take the antihistamines anymore because they bother my hypertension. Man, getting old sux ---- of course, the alternative is worse.

There are some hot, humid days here just north of Hell (Spring, Texas really) when I can't breathe. And it makes it worse that I want to get out now in the nice year-round weather here and play golf.

After spending 22 years in the air force, and them sticking with that jab…I’d get the flu three days after the jab, and then get it for two weeks, during the winter…I found that if your allergic to eggs, you could get away with not taking the shot….but, I’m not allergic to eggs, still eat them……I haven’t had a flu shot since 1986, and only had the flu maybe five times….so do what you want…….wobbles

There are no flu shots available here, even for the high-risk people. Seems Chiron has screwed us over again.

And these are the people we've awarded the contract to work on a bird flu vaccine.

I was diagnosed with asthma and allergies at the age of 7. I am now 42. I still have asthma and live with it daily. I have not had an asthma attack in over 5 years now, I am using a preventive called advair and use the middle strength 250/50mcg. I tried several other preventives, but this one worked best for me. Before I started using this, I was using my proventil for acute asthma attacks 7 to 8 times a day, every day.
I would shake and sweat from my heart having to work so hard. I also use nasonex for my nasal allergies. I take both medicines twice daily. I am religious about taking the medicines because they work. I am sure there are other medicines out there now, but since mine are doing the trick, I will keep taking them.

Advair is not for acute asthma attacks, but it will prevent them if taken daily.

    Good luck.

    Hi!

I've been really lucky, I have mild asthma attacks which are pretty rare, but sometimes the colder weather will trigger it. I suffer from allergies daily, dust and dander. Does anyone have suggestions as to what to take to help with a constant dribbly nose? Not stuffy, just kinda dribbles all the time, have to blow my nose constantly, and of course it gets raw, especially during winter. Sorry, just had to ask!

You know, I once had an asthma attack when doing a cross country run in the coldest months of Winter. According to matron the cold air had triggered it - I ran 100m and then just collapsed because of lack of oxygen. The PE department said that I was just really unfit and made me do it the next year, even with matron advising me not to. Exactly the same result! Funny that! Never ran a cross country since. Thank heavens.

I had the very same once from a biology teacher on a skiing trip with school! Told me I was unfit and lazy and to get back up the ski lift after I complained of tiredness and nausea. I collapsed halfway down the slope with hypothermia. You'd hope PE and biology staff would recognise such limitations and difficulties
