Anyone ever file a complaint with the BBB?

I am possibly looking at filing a complaint against a company doing a kitchen remodel at my house. I do not want to go into specifics at this time as I am trying to rectify the situation with the company directly. However, I may have no choice but to file a complaint and or a lawsuit if need be.

I was wondering if anyone has had any dealing with the Better Business Bureau in their area and could shed a little light on the complaint process and what to expect.

    Thanks!!

    Hey Blusman

I filed a complaint against Daewoo about 2 weeks ago. I did it all online. It was pretty simple. Just follow the prompts, and include as much information as you can. They said it could take a month to get a responce from them, and im still waiting soo....

    Good luck.

I filed a complaint against RealNetworks a few years ago. The only tricky part was finding out exactly which county they were in so I could file with the correct branch of the BBB. It took less than 5 business days to resolve the problem.

You already know where they're located, so that won't be an issue. The BBB is there to help you, just give them a call (or check out their website) and they'll walk you through everything you need to do.

Thanks folks. I am giving them till tomorrow at 1pm which is the time they promised me , as of this afternoon, that they would finish the cabinetry end of the job. We were supposed to have the countertops in last week and still do not have a concrete day for installation of the countertops. I refused to pay for the counter tops until I have a concrete date for install.... blah blah blah....

the icing on the cake was today. Wife stopped by shop on her way home from picking up my son. Asked them when they would be able to do the work. They said " today between 11am and 12noon" the installer would be back to do the job. She's says great and heads home. 330pm I get a call that no one has shown up or called her. This has been the norm with this company. I called back to express my concern, for the 5 time or so, about no communication, about the common courtesy of a phone call saying that they weren't coming, etc. They apologized but at this point it isn't good enough anymore. I told them on more time I have to make the phone call , hours after they were supposed to show up and work, to find out what the job status is and I am at a minimum filing a complaint with the BBB. If they piss me off any further they will here from an attorney.

Bummer, bluesman. Hopefully your issue with the contractor is only one of general flakiness and not quality of work. A complaint to the BBB has no teeth, IMO. It has the potential to harm your contractor's market (a little) but only if future customers check with the BBB.
If you have a scheduled or final payment due to them - consider telling them they will be backcharged for your wasted time. Document every instance. It's unlikely there are any performance clauses in your agreement but the threat of $$$ issues might wake 'em up.
As a contractor, I have to deal with a general negative stereotyping of contractors. It sucks to be mistrusted. I'm fair, honest, and most of all punctual! So I rely on my past customers as references. They're like money in the bank and I treat new customers like gold! so I can add them to my list.
    Good luck.

Violations of the law by a licensed contractor may result in a citation or charges against the contractor that could lead to suspension or revocation of the contractor's license. Citations may contain civil penalties of up to $5,000 and/or orders of correction requiring the contractor to make repairs to your project or pay you to hire others to do so. (If a disciplinary action is undertaken, the state Attorney General represents the CSLB to prosecute the case. The Attorney General is not counsel for the complainant, but counsel for the CSLB.)
