Anyone have an iHome ipod boombox?

Does anyone here happen to own an iHome iH31/iH32 ipod boombox? I'm having a slight issue and want to make sure I'm not crazy; iHome's customer service hasn't been much help.

There's a "remote" on/off switch on the boombox-- theoretically, when it's set to off the remote's not supposed to work the box, and viceversa. The thing is, the remote works regardless of whether the switch is set to on or off. Normally I wouldn't be concerened with that (I've never seen any other device that you have to turn a switch on to use the remote...) but I'm concerned that, with the switch on, the remote's battery can be drained or something if I'm not even using it.

I checked with customer service and they said that the switch should indeed stop the remote from working the box if it's set to off-- so far, the original silver box I purchased as well as an exchange for the black version have both acted the same way: namely, the remote switch doesn't seem to make a difference at all. The first (silver) box arrived with the remote battery drained, so I guess I just want to make sure the oddly-nonfunctional remote switch being stuck on perma-on won't eat through the battery unnaturally quickly.

So does anyone else perchance have the iH31/iH32 and can shed some light on this?
