Hey guys i am starting drawing class soon and want to get a little head start to work on my techniques. I love drawing and art in general. I was wondering if anyone here knew of some good books on how to draw, or even how to do digital art would be cool.
just so you know i draw a lot but really don't know what i'm doing and I usully blunder on by sometimes doing some okay work.
so anyone got any suggestions for a me?

Is this class going to be a college class…if so, I would just wait….for my first drawing class, they had a kit at the bookstore, that we had to buy….it came with six kinds of charcoal, 27 different pencils, ink, a two sided ink pen, with black and blue ink, two kinds of paper newsprint, and one white….size 22”x24” and the kit came with a drawing board that was a little bigger then the paper….tape to hold the paper to the board…three or four kinds of eraser’s….and what’s called a draftsmen duster, a long brush to sweep the eraser dust off the page…..it also had a 9”x11” Sketchbook….two way pencil sharpeners and a x-acto knife…a few blending sticks and a portfolio to carry everything inside…it’s been a few years since I did the class, I think 1997, so there could be other things in the kit……and back to your question, I don’t think there was a book, for the class….

….what I’ve found over the years, you can have two or three art professors sitting side by side and they’ll all tell you to use different books…..my teacher was a book collector, and would bring to class six to ten books, to every class….if it was me, I would keep drawing, and don’t buy a book……….wobbles

go to a large book store (borders?) and just browse through them. there is bound to be something that captures your interest. art 'speaks' differently to each individual, so what i would think of as a 'good' art book, isnt going to be the same as you. if you look, i've no doubt something will jump out at you. good luck. aloha

I'm a bit of an artist myself, and after taking several classes...The only thing I can say is DRAW...and wait until you see the techiques this particular teacher will teach you. There are several different ways to do some tichniques, and you can have 20 tearchers sitting side by side, and they will all tell you a different way to do something!! And nine times out of ten...thier way is the best, and if you dare think of straying from thier way, then you just won't be worth a darn!!!!

So keep drawing on your own...go through the class, then start investigating varying techniques on your own time and figure out which one works the best for your own personal self!!!! If your teacher is a good teacher (in my opinion) he/she will teach you all the various techniques that equal the same results, and then let you choose which one you like the best!!

Now when it comes to the digital world...I don't know squat about that!!
