Anyone Tried This?

Has anyone tried the hotfix from this article, and if yes, any noticeable improvements, or problems?

Haven't tried but am willing.Those ms articles are so hard to get a grip on.Can you explain what it does in layman terms.

 

I don't entirely understand this one, myself.

All i can really tell you is due to the power management features of XP, its causing a problem with multi cpu machines, be it dual core, dual cpu, and maybe even HT enabled CPUs.

 

My understanding of this, and I only read a brief magazine article, is that affected machines can run very slow.

Opening files and folders takes a long time, and loading applications is painfully slow and tedious.


BTW Adrynalyne, how did you go with the new family member?

 

Strange that you would mention this today, as earlier I read about power consumption problems with notebook batteries on the newer Intel processors and chipsets that are due to be shipped soon. Seems that when a USB 2 device is hooked to the notebooks, the battery life is shortened dramatically, but doesn't cause problems with AMD units, only the newest ones with Intel processors and their newest chipset. Problem is supposedly the Microsoft power management driver.

 

We are still getting aquainted(sp). Memory timings will be the death of me.

This hotfix is all over the net, but Im one of those, "dont try beta MS crap" people.
